Anyone painted the M Performance lip Gloss black?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Almost feels like it should have been gloss black instead of how they have it in matte? Anyone seen it in gloss black care to comment or share some pictures?

Thanks.

Did you get it color matched to the M Perf grills? How much should I be looking to pay for this?

You mean 3M? I would think the clear coat should protect it?

What are side blades? Splitters? I would think since they are CF I would leave them as is.

Awesome. Any info on them? Pictures, etc? Is this a custom job or are they available like that now? What's the difference?

Thanks man! They're CF so they're not oem, but if I had the oem ones I would probably paint them gloss black as well to match the rest of the car haha.

Clear coat will not protect it... It's 5 inches off the ground...trust me, it will look like crap in no time.

Wrap it or plan to repaint it... :

I was considering painting the lip and blades gloss black but lip is like that to be able to take a beating, if painted anything is gonna be noticeable after that. Too much debris on the track it will not survive.

Does that hold true for the stock matte paint as well or is wrapping just mandatory?

If the shop paints it properly, it'll sustain just as well as the unpainted matte version. The shop should use a plasticizer in the paint when they paint the lip. This will give the paint the ability to flex with the lip when you scrape on drive ways. Sure, the underside will be all scraped up, but so would the matte version. The plasticizer in the paint will prevent it from catastrophically chipping away. Any decent body shop will know this; the paint on urethane parts include the plasticizer formula while solid parts will not include it.

On a side note, a good body shop also knows that urethane parts also accept paint differently. So they will add some more black or white in the formula compared to the sheet metal panels to compensate.

Yes, I used to run a body shop.

The stock isn't painted. It's just matte plastic... Like your iPhone case.

Yeah, agreed, any lip you scrape will obviously look like shit if you screw it up.

I've actually scrapped my gloss black lip 5-6 times now, but it still looks good since it's all on the underside. And if it scrapes up pretty badly, just repaint it obviously lol. Same with the oem matte black one when it gets all scraped up, you either refinish it matte black or go another color route, it's pretty common sense. Lip is there for looks at the cost of scraping more lol

Hope you guys figure out how you want to your cars to be and goodluck!
