Was (or is) there a distinct "M3/M4 Competiton" model?
The new M5 Competition comes with a black badge with the words "Competition" on it. Was (or is) there such a badge and comparable model of the M3/4? Or is it the same thing as ZCP except BMW did not yet have a badge for the M3/4?

Since the F80/2/3 are nearing the end of their production run, I doubt we will see an M4 Competition. However, it will likely be I introduced on the G8X. BMW ///M model hierarchy: Base -> Competition -> CS -> CSL ZCP is the option code for the Competition Package in the USA. Different countries use different option codes, so ZCP is not internationally applicable. Starting with the M2, BMW decided to create a distinct model with the Competition series, meaning it is no longer an “option” but rather a different model to be selected. Which leads me to believe that the ZCP option in the USA will no longer exist per se on future models (it will stop when the F8X ends). I also doubt the current F82 M4 will receive the “Competition” badging.

Thanks for the clarification. I was just wondering why the M5 and M2 got a specific badge.

Competition badge is part of a new BMW strategy to create multiple models for each M vehicle. M cars will have: Base, Competition, CS, GTS. Whether cars like the M2 or M5 will get CS and GTS remains to be seen.

I believe the intent is to go with the CSL designation instead of GTS going forward.
