Anyone else get banned from the G8X section for making fun of its looks?

This is spot on. After the issues with the N54 HPFP reliability, it was definitely a wait and see situation with the S55. But once the reviews poured in and the ORGANIC technical videos with Biermann giving racing insight into the development of the chasis and systems, you had to line up for an allocation or scour dealers online for one.

I joined here back then when I got my 15 F80. There was a ton more interest mostly good and some bad. The V8 vs I6 turbo war was massive, but nobody said the car ugly. Some may have said they liked the E90 better, but that was a small minority. Everyone applauded the weight loss and most thought the technical aspects were very impressive. The cooling, use of CF in the driveshaft/strut tower brace etc etc.

I too joined in anticipation of the F80 and enjoyed the great discussions then. Unlike the V8 guys, I welcomed the return of the I6 and FI for its low end torque and increased efficiency (after the E60 M5, I needed a car that didn't need a fill up after 150 miles of hard driving).The G8X on the other hand is really a stark contrast to the F8X launch with its controversial style, lack of technical improvements, seriously unhinged marketing, and heavy hand with forum censor is just sad.

The only hit on the F8X front end at the time was some folks not liking the labia lips in the side intake pickups. Pretty minor gripe since it is fairly easy to black them out tho very few do this, meaning it's not an eye sore or issue with the majority of people. My only dislike of the F30/F8X generation is the curved cutout of the passenger side of the dash. That was it. Thankfully I'm the driver and I've learned to not care about it b/c everything else just is so damn good.

What a real shame that mods are banning long time contributors to this forum over our displeasure with the G8X generation.

I guess with the sudden shift to please the Chinese markets, zee Germans have capitulated and have resorted to authoritarian censoring tactics. I had a 2011 E92 and there seemed to be too many compromises in the name of performance. E90s were no longer being produced when I bought mine. Mine came with a manual transmission that I hated, the fuel economy was horrendous, the doors were too long, the car required special oil which meant dealership visits, and on track the oil temperatures got quite high. I dumped the car in 2012 for close to what I paid for it.

Lo and behold, in 2014 the F80 shows up on my radar. It had four-door practicality, I could spec it with a DCT this time, more torque, better fuel economy, lighter weight, perfect ergonomics for my body type, and I opted for European delivery which made the whole event very special. Being able to work on it myself with resources like realoem.com and TISonline really increased my knowledge and comfort level with the car.

Now with the G80, it appears all I’d have to look forward to is more horsepower from an arguably excellent engine, radar guided cruise, and digital gauges. No euro delivery, no DCT (manual purists might be ok), more weight, and it’s not an attractive car because the defining hallmarks have been eliminated in favor of gaudy trinkets. They didn’t even get rid of ASD, which means they still haven’t sorted out the exhaust note. It’s a leap too far. BMW has taken actions to block websites like realoem and TISonline as well to force us back into the dealership experience.

I don’t want this thread to just be a hater echo chamber. I’d rather it identify concrete failures with a combined voice to somehow let BMW know we don’t like what they’re offering, and no amount of forcing or disruptive social media posts is going to get us to drop $70K+ for this. I can only downvote and submit negative reviews on their stuff so many times before I just have to wash my hands of all of this and go somewhere with some positivity.

Why must so many things ebb and flow based on collective policy decisions? Cars are like politics and sports - just when things are starting to go right they start to go wrong. Merc, Lexus, Audi, and now BMW have all gone to large grilles. BMW and Merc had been locked in a battle to see who could sell the most cars for the past few years. I hope Merc waxes the floor with BMW this year.

Edit: It sucks to see members being banned, but mods are allowing us to have our civil discussions here. If they want us to stay out of the G8X subforums, then I’m happy to do so. Not a lot for me to like over there. I would hope warnings are dispensed before outright bans, and I’m curious what was said so the rest of us know where the line has been drawn.

God, you haven't been to the Tesla forums. That place is just of a bunch of wannabe car enthusiasts. Its more like a forum for cell phones than a car forum. They always get butt hurt when I tell them to stop calling their Model 3s "M3's".

What I think we all like are the people who have contributed to this forum over the years. Its what makes the forum great. Look at what happened to Bimmerfest. Once Jon sold it its taken a huge dump b/c all the long time posters have moved on. Even the actual bimmerfest even is no longer the same as it doesn't feel organic like the past when it didn't feel like a money grab from the time you pulled into the parking lot.

Haha, the Tesla forums are pure comedy. I've browsed there occasionally as I believe it use to be that you had to have a Tesla vehicle for an account to post (although that may have changed), but there is so much drama there. Make one critical comment and everyone prepares for war against you. I actually like Tesla's, but I feel if I made one comment about another vehicle or a critique towards Tesla I'd be compared to the likes of a troll. I remember when the Taycan came out I looked at the Model S forum, so many blinded fanboys would make sure to use its range against any area that it bested the Model S in, and wouldn't listen to anyone who said anything good about the Taycan at all. And yes, calling a Model 3 an M3 annoys the s*** out of me, I hate it so much. I believe they recently changed the design and layout of the forums and its become so much uglier and unorganized making it difficult to read easily, I much prefer BP's layout to any of the other forums except maybe the Taycan forum which is decent.

This little SoCal lifestyle company called Garagewelt making skate decks and apparel is better at creating BMW advertisements than BMW itself. I love their short edits; vintage racing videos or just stock footage pulled from the BMW archives overlaid with music and retro effects that are very popular amongst younger people like me nowadays.


(just ignore the S85 cameo ).

This has got so much more "///M" and car enthusiast energy in it than most new car ads out there and certainly those from BMW. Ad showing an M3 go around a track: simple. Simple = better.

But this is a German corporate so it is natural they would go for dancing monkeys and Drift Meter apps instead.

Wow, Yoda and I barely agreed on anything except the G80 is ugly but man banning him completely is no bueno.

The reason that the G8x forums are so dead is bec they banned all the existing owners of F8x cars.

I personally have never seen something like this ever. It’s funny that BMW knew that this grill design language would be controversial so why get butthurt when longtime BMW owners get upset and want to voice their displeasure.

There is basically the same 10 ppl posting now in G8x forums and they still have more negatives from new members i guess than positive in regards to styling.

I was banned months ago without any warning. The funny thing is im actually considering getting the AWD model to replace our X3 M40i. So mods banned me, a long-standing member and current owner of 2 BMWs and exact consumer that new M3 is targeting. How does this make any sense??? 🤔

I'm not a huge fan of the car (for many reasons) and therefore I have no real reason to head over there - unless I'm looking to cause trouble. But that's apparently just me?

Bimmerpost promotes a lot of the G8X posts to the FP so you can't help but take a peek at what is being posted. Its like car accident on the fwy, you can't help but rubberneck.
