You may want to check that inventory split thread below.

I would think the Comp. Pack is developed and ready to go. If the C63S turns out to dominate the F8X I would not be surprised if the launch is forwarded. Just as I think the N54 launch was forwarded as a response to the original Lexus IS. The gap in power on paper to the C63S is already significant and if the ring time and 1/4 mile has a big gap as well BMW might feel the need to respond.
It doesn't really matter to me but I think it would be nice the quicker it is out for people who has not bought yet. |

My guess is BMW forecasts more demand for the coupes (M4s) vs. the sedans (M3s) and therefore builds more of them. How could a manufacturer increase demand for a specific car if they wanted to build more units? Update it quicker (LCI, perhaps comp package), offer much higher residuals on leases to try to move people from M4s to M3s. In the end they will still sell more M4s, but perhaps they are trying to make the balance not so skewed towards one body style.

Reported on BMWBlog. They have been a pretty reliable source of information over the years. I wonder how much of a power bump the Comp Package will give. An extra 15hp will bring it up to around 445hp, I'm not sure that's going to be enough against the C63 AMG-S's 510hp. Can't wait to see the revised tail lights though!

In 2008, I was unable to get a decent discount (besides the basic $1~2k) on an ordered E92 M3. In the meantime, E90 M3 were just pilling up on dealer lots. My buddy ended buying an E90 M3 at $16k off MSRP at the end of the year. As tidbit, he ended up totaling his M3 2 years later and got more money from the insurance than what he paid 2 years earlier .

On my 2012 I opted for no competition package anyway and I wo b t miss it this time. I wouldn't want heavier 20s with less meaty tires and I love the current black 19s. J Don't Want My Car Any lower! Suspension and brakes are perfect. I have an ess tune so any power bump is of no use.
Comp pack only was meaningful for e46. Since then it's cosmetic really |

Yeh that is what I have heard all along too but now bmw blog posted this and stirred it all up again. I would think releasing ZCP for the M3 and not the M4 now would just kill M4 sales even more....

Residuals are sometime used to drive sales but more often than not they are designed to limit financial risk for BMWFS. They believe the M3 may hold more value in 36 months vs. M4 |

Perhaps they're getting out 20's earlier as a means of addressing traction complaints (wider tire and effectively taller gearing)?
Please say it's so!

How much more do the comp package M3's typically cost over the standard one? 8-10% of base price?

No way for the Com pack. But the LCI tails and I drive is quite possible. Just like E90 m3 had a refresh in 2009 1 year after the 2008 come out.

Considering that the Comp Pack costs $7,300 for the M5/M6, and by my rough calculations which is 7.9% of the base price of an F10 M5. I'd guess that the Comp Package price will be roughly $5,000 based on that same percentage for the F8x M3/M4.

The F8x was timed well with the new idrive release, with the touch pad. The only update it will be getting is the LTE/over the air updates. Which is a minor change, the physical makeup of the idrive will remain the same. If it is like the LTE in Audis, I'd let the trial subscription run out anyways. Not paying to extend it.
