Coilover Owners- KW EDC Delete vs. Coding Dilemma Please Read
I am very close to pulling the trigger FINALLY on the Blistein PSS10 Coilover Kit. My final dilemma lies with the particular EDC fault code that will arise. Dilemma is because of the following-
1. I contacted Alex @ AlpineMSS and he stated that he can code out the EDC but I have to make sure that when the car goes to the dealer that they will not "update" the software. He specifically stated that if the dealer were to update the software, I would have major software issues with my vehicle. Unlike other codes that get overridden with an update, he mentioned that this particular code would not. Perhaps it is the way he codes but he is one of the OG's around here and has been doing this for years. Can anyone chime in on this? - This scares me because I know dealers often have a mind of their own and do shit regardless; I always mention to not wash my car when its in for service but its happened on a couple occasions in the past several years where they have. Alex yelled at me and said they won't do it if you tell them not too cause it takes a long time but it still leaves me skeptical. 2. I spoke with two reputable vendors on this forum regarding the KW EDC delete module paired with the Blistein PSS10 kit. Vendor A, which I buy most my stuff from, stated the following: "Due to the fact that your car is EDC, you will require either coding or an EDC delete module to run a coilover. Also, we have installed the PSS10 and unfortunately they do not take into consideration the electronics on the F8X M3/M4, so you have to weld in a bracket for one of the strut sensors, which in my opinion shows a lack of research into the chassis." - Vendor B- Another reputable member stated that this isn't true based off the installation information they have in-house from blistein w/ EDC equipped vehicles. The car's that they have installed the kits on (F8x's) were equipped with passive M suspension. So they couldn't chime in further. * Can any of you chime in on this as well? Have any of you experienced this that have the PSS10 kit? I know the data is limited here but any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to lose my patience and want to finalize everything. |

KW EDC delete module for the E90 M3. I'm not sure what the F80 one looks like. But if they look like this, you don't have to "weld" a bracket. There are many ways you can figure out a mounting solution. Shops find all sorts of ways to mount stuff like external canisters etc. This one would be easy.
If you want the Bilstein's, get em. I think you're worrying about something very small. |

Dealership will not have a problem if coding is performed properly.
If you cannot get it coded locally, please feel free to come down and we'll get everything taken care of, including coilover install.

You will be fine with KW delete. Also, Alex knows his stuff so I wouldn't worry about what he says. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

As most do not understand, they just code it in. When you remove the VO for EDC on F8X cars and take it in to the dealer, the dealer computer prompts for the ICM module to be replaced.
Since the ICM module is a different part # for non EDC cars when the dealer/ISTA P reads the cars VO/Coding sees it has a ICM module for EDC it throws up a red X for replacement. And if the dealer actually tries to warranty it and BMW catches it, there is a chance (small) your car will be flagged. I am not crazy to turn away business. I understand most people will just say "I can code it no problem" I explain the possibility of damage/problems to the customer then proceed. This is the reason you do not see "brightening Angel Eyes" on my coding lists. Once again that is an attractive option, but over time it ages the wiring and headlamps. If the customer is fine with it I proceed. I have a way around the EDC now if the dealer programs it, it shouldn't give a replacement ICM. |

Subscribed as I just got some KW V3's and since my car has EDC curious to know if the solution is to buy the KW EDC delete and hope for the best or any EDC delete for that matter and hope for the best or just code it out. Either way I'm interested.

If they are really not working, why don't you get back to the place where you bought it?

Did the vendor who you bought the cancellation kit do anything for solving your issue?

Lol, thanks but no thanks. I'm just going to have mine coded out lol. It seems as though that is the easiest and most effective way of getting rid of the EDC. Thanks for the insight! You've only solidified what my other friends have been saying. Thanks!
