Video: Raucous F80 M3 Cold Start

+1, this new M3/4 is likely to be epic in every way but the exhaust note probably won't be as impressive as the E9X's V8. On the otherhand, I've heard really nice sounding 1Ms w/ a good aftermarket exhaust, so I have hope the M3/4 will be even better with a little modification.

Notice this F80M is on different wheels than we have seen ever for an F8X mule. Look like e60m wheels a little.

Haha, that cold start sounds like a lawnmower. Out of the previous videos, it sounds equally bad in all the videos except the first one with that nice wall of buildings to bounce the sound off of.

I really hope the new car sounds better than this. This is gross.

The finished product in real life will sound decent I'm sure. Certainly no V8.

6's CAN sound as good as some V8's. For instance, I much preferred my Cayman S with a Tubi to my current S65 M3. Although I will say that neither is a slouch. Both great sounding engines.

We all know that the new M3/4 will use the audio system to help "make sound" on the inside of the car.

Clearly one will have to wire in a set of all-weather exterior speakers mounted on the trunk lid so the people outside the car are not horrified!

Agree fully on the raw performance but there is more to cars than simply the numbers they achieve. There is much to be said for the thrill of the experience and acoustics (and of course redline) is ABSOLUTELY a key component of the thrill factor of any sports car. BMW, with or without an aftermarket exhaust will be taking a step backwards with regards to acoustics, redline and the associated thrill and enjoyment of those with the new FI cars.

Its never going to sound better or anything like the E9X. its going to be a worse outcome than the M5/6 exhaust sound change. I'm quite happy with the E92 and even more happy with the fact I pulled the trigger on the E92 and did not wait for this.

This sounds more like a leaf blower motor to me. I'm hoping the final product will sound better.

In either case this new ///M will never sound like a NA V8. I'm focussing on the increased performance, more technology, more CF, and hopefully moderate weight reduction.
