I'm not sure how it works in the U.K., but here is the U.S. we can file a safety complaint with the DOT. I'm not sure at this level yet, however.

I wonder if the 20" wheels that will be on the ZCP (Style 666M) are partially related to this issue.

Thinking about it, it definitely sucks. I want a 19" option that has more clearance. I love the fat look of the 255/35 and 275/35 tires. |

Geordie scroll down to the bottom of the Wheels/Tires sub forum without opening yours or anyone's threads. You'll see the Moderator's names highlighted in red and Bolded towards the right side of the screen. Click on one of them and pm away. Dackelone is located in Germany, maybe he can gain some insight or scour the German forums for similar issues. He's very knowledgable and very helpful. They all are actually but he'd be my first choice for this one.

I too am doing the ED and have the CCBs on my M3. Am I concerned? A tiny bit. Will this deter me? Never!

20's wheels on OLED Concept car...
I heard 20's inch wheels will be offered next year. I saw some 20's on the OLED concept car.
I also know that carbon brakes have to be removed from the car and WEIGHED in order to see IF they are worn down to min specs. So you need to pay for a brake job - just to weigh them! For this reason... some of my friend's who work for BMW decided to go with regular steel brakes. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I will pass along this thread though, to my "friends" at BMW. Dackel OLED Concept car with 20's...

As this appears to be safety related too, I also bring this thread to the attention of SCOTT26
Maybe he can also be of any assistance.

Hoping to hear something from BMW on this as I have the CCBs specced and will not be getting a 2016, so whatever is in the production pipeline in 3 weeks is what I get. I gotta say though, I wouldn't be thrilled if they swap the 19's for 20's, as I personally like the OEM 19's much better than the LCI photo wheels. Plus I much prefer 19 to 20. Maybe they can just get a redesigned 19, similar to the MORRs, that give a measurable amount of increased clearance. I'd take that solution happily!

I just joined the CCB wheel damage club. My car has 400 miles on it. I was driving about 25 mph and I heard "the sound". From this board I knew exactly what it was. I stopped the car, put it in reverse and dislodged the stone. Now I have a nice gouge all around the inside of the passenger side front wheel. I think I'll wait for my 1200 service to make a complaint. Will BMW really replace the rim? I hope there will be a fix for this. This is going to happen all the time!

Wow this is disheartening.
A 20" OEM wheel on an M3/M4 just to get CCB's eliminates all of the benefits of CCB's in the first place. Would adding spacers to the existing wheels help the issue at all? At least until BMW offers a solution. |

The issue is that the position where the stones get trapped is on the barrel of the wheel and its a pure radial clearance issue. Spacers would not have an effect as the physics would remain the same.

2nd wheel with damage....
Here is the second wheel Which was damaged, notice it had 1 full circumference damage and 1 partial, same stone or 2 stones is anyone's guess.

Guys,
No pictures, but I have this very similarly with my stock 18" wheels and stock brakes. The clearance is that tight - but they look amazing I think the only current way to avoid this type of damage is to go with 19" wheels and stock brakes. |
