Don't see many PNW people in here

'18 M4 ZCP on Ohlins R&T & Nitto NT01s - 1:31.60 at Pacific

Definitely sub-1:30 in this car, hard to late brake consistently while fighting pad knockback. It also wasn't my car so zero chance I was going to put it into a wall.

Yes. That was stock suspension and front-only bbk and re71 tires.

This was with mcs suspension, rear bbk and bfg r1 tires. With a full slick I bet the car can do awfully close to 2:00.

There's still time to be had in the current setup. This was its first outing with the new suspension and alcon brakes

What's the reasoning behind efficient throttle & low DCT setting? Smoothness?

It follow James Clay's suggestion after driving our car for a while doing some suspension development. The throttle setting is for linearity and the dct setting is to reduce the 'bams' while shifting which introduce unnecessary stress to the driveline and tires.

Both settings are a bit counterintuitive but clearly they work.

The 2:04.4 in the E90 was/is posted on the stroker thread.

It'll take a while to post the CS video. It has to be converted to black and white then posted on an anonymous youtube account to make sure the butthurt 991 Cup cars somehow getting chased by a full weight CS on dot slicks have trouble identifying the source of the video.

The first time I heard you say this, I thought you were kidding. But it does make some sense and I have been running DCT in position 2 since my first F82 in 2016 for the same reason.

Knowing that efficient mode gives the turbos a break and sport mode spools them up for quicker response, you feel this is not a factor/issue?

1st time running pfc13 which is the sprint pad. Again, this was James' reco. It seemed to be very resistant to abs intervention so the car wouldn't enter the 'death wobble' you sometimes get when pushing braking zones

The 2:04.4 of the E90 was done with a full pfc bbk on pfc11 pads. The 2:04.7 of the CS was done with pfc13 on the Bimmerworld-Alcon bbk.

It seems like the 13 wears faster while being more resistant to abs, but we are speaking from memory as our E90 was not at this event.

Clearly the Bimmerworld-Alcon kit is the real deal. TBD whether it's better than the PFC kit but we'll eventually test them back to back

It is completely counterintuitive, I know. When he said that I asked 'can I run dct in 2/3 and throttle in sport?'. Apparently I'm not allowed to.

When I'm around RandyP or JamesC I tend to just listen and remove my own preconceptions. Randy says turn 6 at WGI should be taken in 4th in my car even though I like using 3rd? Well 4th gear it is then!

When you have someone like James in his M4 GT4 driving that and your car back to back I assure you I'm not going to tell him that I heard that Sport+ has some antilag or whatever. He is more sensitive to mechanical BMW stuff than I ever will be, so I just shut up and listen.

Last Friday I tried Sport throttle (with 6MT blip blip), now I wanna try and see that efficient throttle!

It sounds kinda weird though, but sounds like worth experimenting!

"In EFFICIENT mode, everything is more levelled out, with a high orientation towards comfort. In stark contrast is the SPORT PLUS mode, which pays absolutely no attention to any comfort factors. In SPORT PLUS, all filter functions are deactivated and the engine responds directly to movements of the accelerator pedal – but this also requires someone behind the wheel who really knows what he is doing. In SPORT PLUS, everything is transmitted as sharply as a knife, in terms of what the engineering can do to facilitate fast lap times – whether in the engine, transmission, chassis or control systems."

I'm... trying to wrap my head around that. I'll give it a shot next time I'm out in an F82.

If you stay in the power band (aka over 4k, let's just keep it simple) which is 100% of your time hot lapping, lag waiting for turbos to spool shouldn't be an issue, right? Since they're always spooled? I'd also bet that DCT cars do little tricks with the engine to keep them at full spool between shifts when you're in the power band.

It's been a long time since I dealt with turbos

I drive on the street in efficient mode since then and it is obviously a lot more linear. If anything it seems less laggy.

Yup, I've read that.

In a 6MT car sometimes you want less linear throttle modes just for the heel and toe. Your foot only goes to a certain position on the throttle while braking so sometimes you want that extra boost.

If my car were tuned I would request the Sport mode to be remapped to a completely linear throttle so I can enjoy the louder exhaust modes

So for a 6MT car, the car will do heel and toe for you in Efficient and Sport throttle mode so it's even better. I think using Sport throttle would be already faster for me as not having to do heel and toe makes trail braking a lot easier. I will see how efficient throttle will cooperate with 2k rpm on 3rd gear which I actually go down to.

If you don't use OBD II for logging you can get a valve controller plug in to open up the valves and enjoy the exhaust.

Unfortunately I do use it for the Aim SoloDL2

Ah I forgot all about autorevmatch on the F8X. You definitely want that enabled!! Makes it so much easier.
