Spring rates and sway bar setup for the track?

Hey guys, what is your spring/damper setup? Are you running sways?

My local track has a lot of high speed left turns and I'm getting a lot of wear on my outside drivers tires and inside passenger rear.

I'm running these camber settings -3.2F and -2.2R with MCS 2 way remotes with 700F and 600R and Bridgestone RE71r 265/35/19 and 305/30/19 on a custom flex track tune where I run about E50-60.

My suspension settings are:
Front 12C 9R
Rear 10C 9R
175PSI can pressure front and rear

The car feels great and I'm able to slide it around/get a nice slip angle, controlled with some turn-in understeer, but puts the power down very well.

Since RE71R tires are gone I'm planning on going with Goodyear supercar 3R in the above sizes and then I will be able to rotate left to right so that should help some. I also might start running Pirelli takeoffs.

This is picture showing the most lean out of all the pics that were taken at gridlife.

I'm thinking of going to 800lb front springs? Or should I do a front sway? If so which one?

These tires have about 20 sessions.

I think most of you guys are running MCS suspension, if you can chime in on your setup and what works or doesn't i would appreciate it. SYT_Shadow Docall w00tw00t M3SQRD ninekrpm irunalot RSXDC5

At first glance your compression seems very high, try 5 front & 4 rear. Just from doing that alone you will now soak up bumps/curbs much better vs bouncing off of them.

Rebound is much more of a moving target that correlates to chassis balance/weight…further modified by tire width & stagger & treadwear. For me, with the 305's & 325's (100tw), I like 11 rebound front & rear (600/500 springs used, coilover rear)

If u want to explore slick tires or used scrubs, I would recommend a 800/700 spring setup to start (coilover rear spring rates again used).

If you want to add sways into the mix, possibly to be coupled with the slicks, Hotchkis sways are nice, but if you are a coilover rear (inverted, with adjuster on bottom of damper), you would require the offset MCS bushings so you don't rub your rear spring&sway.

If u want to run aero or race on an oval/roval, then that will need to be compensated for as well.

Always corner balance.

Is a wider set of front wheels/tires on the table?

I like this thread, looking forward to it developing more!

At an immediate read/glance…I would consider adding the front sway to reduce roll…also consider increasing the front canister pressure a bit and the playing with the damper settings.

Echo the comments above regarding running the dampers on the higher end (esp compression).

As I get my car ready for track duty, I am starting with 900/700 cause of the aero…

I'm going to order some apex sm10 18x10.5et22 and 18x11 et44 and run pirelli scrubs 305/645/18 front and rear. To do this I will need a 5" spring so I will be going to 800 in the front and move my 700lb to the rear.

Then I will start with lowering the compression to 5?

I started with them on 3 and the car leaned a lot and didn't feel sharp, so I kept turning them up.

If I'm still having issues then I will try adding a sway, do you guys just do front? Or rear also?

Here is decent vid, my PB is 151.5, but I was having issue with the Garmin losing vid on all my 151s so I just got a skeleton case for it, I think it was losing contact when hitting curbs.

I did find that on the MCS 22mm shafts it's .593 ratio. So if you lower your can pressure from 175 to 100 is like going from a 800lb spring to a 756lb spring.

The range is 100-275psi.

I have MCS 2WR 800lb front, 650lb rear (coilover)

My latest track setup was
F Bump 11 Rebound 13
R Bump 10 Rebound 13

(from full soft)

default 175psi

Overall I liked it. That was a result of dialing up both compression and rebound damping gradually throughout a track day at Sonoma, starting with less aggressive settings at Laguna Seca (don't remember exactly what). I don't have any data logging to back it up that this was my fastest possible setup but it felt good to me.

On 275/35/18 NT01s square

Camber -3.5 F, -2.5 R (planning to go less camber rear in the future, the inside edge was getting quite a bit hotter)

I'm on stock sways with powerflex bushings up front

Well, here's "more"... hoping for advice/suggestions on rear spring rate (and length... 7" or 8"?). I'm taking the plunge into putting what I'm hoping will be a semi-decent, "entry level" track setup on my '16 F80: MCS 1WNR. I'm going with a true coilover rear configuration (not forseeing ever changing out the OEM rear swaybar). It's a "street car" in that I drive it to track events and autocrosses, but otherwise it doesn't see much street use. The tires I'll be using are sticky 200TW (RT660, A052, maybe Rival S 1.5 or CR-1) and 100TW (likely GY F1SC3R).

I'm going to start with 700# front springs (2.25" for max clearance). Thinking about 600# rear (not divorced), based on what others in this thread are doing, but wondering if I should try something lower (500? 550?) since I plan to run a square setup with the MCSs like I am currently... either 18" x 11" with 315/30-18s or 19" x 11" with 305/30-19s. BUT, I do have a 32mm Hotchkis front bar (OEM rear swaybar), and maybe even on the softest front bar setting, I will need 600# or higher rear spring rate to keep the car from being too pushy? The OEM front swaybar is apparently 26mm dia.

It bears mentioning that for autox, a more-neutral setup is often preferred (at the detriment of high-speed stability)... I realize it's futile to try to set up a car "optimally" to do two different things (also with two different size of tires/types of tires). I'm just that special kinda stupid. But, my priority is track performance over autocross performance.

To make the 19x11s + 305s work in the front, I'll use a 5" coilover spring + zero-rate helper, and I'm anticipating needing 3.3–3.6 degrees of negative camber and an effective offset of 11–13mm to get the inside of the wheel/tire to clear the spring/spring perch. Even with my fender liners already reshaped, I'm expecting some rubbing with steering angle.

Aero: currently none; there's a small chance that down the road (probably not in the 2022 season) I may try adding a rear wing, so at that point it might be beneficial to bring the rear spring rate up a bit.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am running full sways. I do not suggest you run only a front sway.

My spring rates are 800 front and 700 rear full coilover.

For now I'd leave the sways alone. The Hotchins ones don't fit perfectly and with a low rear you will break your half shaft boots. Ask me how I know, x2.

Someone else will be releasing sways that actually fit this platform soon. Wait for those.

Thanks for sharing your setup... can I ask the size and type of tires you running with 800F/700R true coilover + F&R swaybars?

Hoosier R7 mostly, which has a similar grip level to a DH scrub.

joining in here. Bonestock F80. Just purchased Hotchkis sways. Seems like differing opinions on Front only, versus Front and back. Should I do both, and if I do both, what settings? I will be driving Road Atlanta and Sebring (rough). This is also my DD. How stiff should I go? Thanks guys and girls in advance. Oh, I run the car at the track on PZero slicks, as a DD on PS4+s....... thanks again.

Are they the new designed Hotchkis rears? I heard the prior ones had a design issue and they were working on new design as of August 2021.

I just bought them, so I sure hope they work OK, and fit....

I'm really wondering about just installing the front, and not doing the rear. Some of the opinions on here lead me to believe that the OEM rear should be sufficient.

You're running slicks on a car with stock suspension, other than swaybars?

Sufficient for what (what is your objective with installing aftermarket swaybars)?

I did install just the Hotchkis front bar on my F80, but this was a conscious choice/experiment, as running a square wheel and tire setup (295s front and rear) and camber plates (3.5 degrees) had shifted the overall balance of my car towards oversteer and I was hoping the stiffer front bar would help the car put down power at corner exit (it didn't, even when I adjusted the Hotchkis front bar stiffness high enough that it was hurting front grip).

My current plan is to go back to running the OEM swaybars front and rear as a starting point as I dial in a different (much stiffer) coilover suspension setup this season.

My video? That is a Garmin a catalyst, it's a whole system and driving coach. It's worth it.
