Nankang AR-1 tire pressures

Hi Guys,

What pressure do you run hot in your ar-1 ?
I have previosly run with A052 and made the switch to ar-1 but man what a dissapointment so far, really slippery and unpredictable in comparison.

Tried playing a little with pressures but could not get a good feel.

I presume you are talking about for track use since you're posting here....

I haven't run these myself (yet), though was strongly considering trying the AR-1 next instead of NT01. At a recent track event I ran into a GT4 driver who seemed to be "in the know" re: AR-1's from his circle of track buddies, and his comment was that really low pressures are optimal for this tire (eg, 28-30 psi hot). Obviously ours is a heftier car, but have you tried that low?

30-31psi hot. For me means starting at low 20-27cold, starting pressure different for each corner, and different for different tracks etc.

Same here for hot target on AR1s. The usual bleed to 30 psi at the end of each session throughout the day.

Same here.

30-31psi hot target & immediately set your hot temps after each session in the pits.

OP, are you on oem dampers? Coilovers?

I was going to post this as a separate thread, but since we've got some Nankang momentum going on here...

fanatic1 had kindly shared with me in past that he could fit the 295/30/18 AR-1, on the front, with the Apex 18x10 ET25 wheel on stock suspension without rubbing (running -3.5 on track, but stated that even with 1.8-1.9 on the street still no rubbing). This was on stock suspension at the time. As noted by some others, he stated the AR-1's in this range run narrow.

Before I pull the trigger, can anyone else corroborate this? I'm on the B16 Damptronic (so strut/perch clearance may differ) and run -3 camber at track, so trying to figure out if I'd get away with this... maybe a 5-10mm spacer would be needed (?)

Would plan to do the 315/30/18 out back on the 11" ET44, which reportedly is completely OK.

I run 30-32psi hot on ar1s
275/35/19F & 305/30/19R
Even a 305 square setup I am at 30-32 depending on track surface and what I'm trying to correct In Terms of behaviour.

We have run this tire on a E30 M3 Racing car and our experience was that it needed more pressure than A052s.
But from your information i see i need to try and drop the pressure a lot as i run around 36 psi hot in them.

My mods so far is only eibach springs and stage 2 tuning.

But KW clubsport 2 way, rear KW toe arms and complete AP Racing front and rear kit with air vent system from Schirmer is on its way so next season i am hoping for some dropped lap times.

Running the CRI/CRS on my F80, same advice I received and saw on track was 29-30 psi HOT. Went out 24 Cold after 1x warm up lap at ButtonWillow I felt the tires were up to temp. Laps 1-3 were very consistent, could have come in to readjust pressures but usual session was 4-5 laps

A052s I found run best around 34-36psi hot.. they have such a soft sidewall so you can't go too low.

I'm not sure if the AR-1 has a stiffer sidewall than then A052 but if it does then you probably want to run lower (31-32psi) as the crowd suggest.

Also A052s heat pretty quickly so maybe you're not used to that with the AR-1s which probably need more heat in them to work well. That would contribute to unpredictable
traction.

IF you don't like the AR-1, I hear the CR1/CRS is the 'hot' tire now.. also Eagle SCR3R as well.
