Sounds like you're describing a Toyota 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Mazda Miata.
Cheap, really light weight, nimble, and you can get them new without breaking the bank. Highly mod-able.

I have no emotional attachment to those cars and I would hate driving every second of it except perhaps the Miata.

For a moddable track monster, a SS 1LE or C6 z06 are hard to beat even stock. Another choice way down on the budget would be a 370z (nismo?). If you're willing to venture deep into project-land, a scmedium single turbo fd3s rx-7 feels like it would trounce most cars *when* it runs.

Don't doubt yourself, give the Subi STI a try. It was the last car I had before the M4. Great car to build on and the most phenomenal AWD system I've ever used. Lightly used 2019-2020's will fetch low $30's... add in another $30k to it and you won't find another car that can really perform all around with it.
In no particular order: (1) beef up the clutch, (2) build the motor, (3) upgrade the turbo and cooling system, (4) upgrade the suspension and all mounts, (4) upgrade the pads, lines, and rotors (2018+ comes with 6 and 2 pot brembos), (5) upgrade all fluids, (6) upgrade the exhaust, (7) add an IAG AOS, and finally (8) get it tuned by Mikey Botti or Greg/Don at MGW Miami. This was my 2018. Had only 303/306 at the wheels but holy shit was the car fun. Last edited by Agonz128; 02-14-2020 at 11:01 PM.. |

I’m keeping an open mind since I never thought a 115whp spec Miata could be more fun to track than a 500+hp old 911, but the reality is my SM is used so much I keep it at the track and my 911 is on a trickle charger. I would never have believed that before I experienced it myself |

I like the F-Type, but it's actually heavier than my M3 CS and the size is deceiving. It feels like a big car.
