Need help – What could it be?

Running Stage 1 BM3 for about two years.

I’ve recently installed the vrsf midpipes and have driven about a week with hem.

Today there was a weird sound that started, almost like something rattling around in the intercooler (Like rock bouncing around). The exhaust sounded louder than usual and then that rattling sound starting happening.

I restarted and let the cold start run its course to see if the sound would happen again, but now I’m getting, what feels like hot air blowing up from the engine compartment. There is also a surge happening but the rpms aren’t changing. Almost like there is a boost leak.

Any info would be VERY appreciated, thanks!

(Video to follow)

Your initial post says midpipe but your video says chargepipes. Just checking…

If it's your CPs maybe you forgot to move the o-rings to the new pipes?

Yes the most recent work was the mid pipes (could be related, could not be) but the sound was coming from the intercooler (I think) and I'm trying to track down the problem. I've seen a lot of talk about charge pipes and was curious if the issues lined up.

If it's the ongoing ticka-ticka-ticka chatter that's your DI system clicking like normal. I listened to your video and didn't hear anything else.

When I worked my car I swore I heard lifter chatter…that same ticking…and several BMW mechanics said it was normally loud like that.

If it's a different sound I just don't hear it. Some guys get a 10-15ft lavalier mic for their phone and tape it in different spots to hunt down noises.

The rattler in the intercooler sound isn't happening any more but it's now surging without the rpms changing. Like surging air flow. The video is the surging sound

Looks like it's ac related, the ac isn't blowing cold and the fan under the hood is surging. Going to do some more researching
