Hmm I've never noticed any awful sounds outside of cold start sequence. Once the cold start sequence dies down after a few minutes, it sounds no different to me as it does when it's fully warm. I also don't drive past 2.5k until the redline reaches 7.5k, and even then I won't push it until around 190f oil (about 10 minutes of warm up driving total)

I ordered a Dinan Free Flow. It had an ETA of 6/25 when I ordered it last week. Hopefully that's accurate.

The non-res definitely sounds like a trumpet until it's warm. The resonated version doesn't do that, but it's much more tame.

As of today, the ETA is still accurate

I did but my guess was the tinny MPE muffler, so I tuned the car that night and deleted cold start. It could have been the mid touching something in the tunnel towards the front but since the cold start delete took care of the awful sound I haven't been under the car since.

I can definitely agree with this, when the exhaust is cold, it's very trumpet-y sounding and raspy, especially noticeable when I'm reversing out of a parking spot and pressing down the clutch.

I think it's just an aspect of the pipes being cold and not expanding with heat, I don't know exactly. I don't drive hard until the car is warm so I never really hear it.

DEFINITELY keep the valves plugged in with the EL midpipe with a cold start, because if not, a valves open cold start is way way too loud.

After the better half of a 4 month wait, I finally managed to get ahold of an active equal length midpipe. I am planning to mate it to my current MPE and am looking for some guidance regarding fitting if possible? I've heard to cut the standard backbox pipes 1.5 inches before the weld but havent been able to find any info on the MPE system. Am unfortunately unable to compare the two so it could be the case that they are the same, but anyone with experience & knowledge fitting to an MPE to point me in the right direction, would be hugely appreciated.

thanks all,
J

Seems like most exhaust makers are looking at the same time frame. Maybe they're all buying their stainless from the same supplier?

Seems like active autowerke has started to ship. I received my tracking yesterday. I believe I ordered back in early April. Or late March.

Hey guys, next to the AA EL midpipe, are there any EL mufflers out there for the F80/F82? Like for example the Milltek EL muffler for the M2C. The sound should be the same in my eyes, no matter where at the exhaust system you compensate the length difference.

I think the AA EL actually makes the driver's side pipe longer than the other one.
It crosses the bank-2 pipe over to the driver's side, which has the longer rear pipe, and adds a shitload of bends that lengthen it even more. By eye, it looks like it would add a lot more length than it would take to make them equal. I will try to remember to measure them the next time I'm under the car.

The other systems seem to actually equalize them, and don't seem to produce the same traditional straight-six sound. But then again I haven't heard the other ones in person 🤷

This is pretty dangerous thread but the sounds from the EL over video sounds amazing.

I currently have a ZCP with AA non EL midpipe paired with the Remus Axleback. Would changing out my current midpipe and keep the Remus make a major difference in the sound? I read through some of the pages here that most combos sounds best with just the EL with stock mufflers or MPE.

I also have the stock cats up front but running catless mids. Would I go resonated or non-res?

Trade you your Remus for my MPE
In your shoes I'd go non-res as your midpipe didn't delete any cats but a couple of resonators just like this one. If you hear drone or rasp or it's too loud now then go resonated to clean up the sound.

Got to chase my F82 at AutoX - my first time really hearing it from the third person. Sounds great, definitely still percussive S55 but sounded really good. Very raw sounding, especially when compared to the more traditional turbo I6s like B58. There was a M340i and Supra running there as well, and tbh, B58 sounds pretty basic and muffled in comparison - a little devoid of character. Don't get me wrong, they sound good just not memorable. In comparison, EL S55 was very unique and sounded a lot more "motorsport".

Anyone who is still questioning how loud it is with stock DPs + stock muffler with valves open, it was louder than my buddy's E90 M3 w/ catless x-pipe thru Eisenmann muffler, and it was cutting clearly through that insane S65 induction noise/scream when I was chasing my F82 in his E90.
