Turns out on the F80/F82/F83, in order to activate the M1/M2 buttons, you'll need to unplug the EDC module. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. Do the coding as I described - Remove 2VF from FA/VO and then VO Code the DSC, KOMBI, ICM, and HU_NBT.

Then, open up the trunk. In the trunk, if you remove the battery cover, there is a silver ECU box right in front of you (two actually stacked on each other) You want to unplug the bottom one. Verify the part number if you aren't sure:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_1822

Part number: 37146872837 or number 15 in the diagram. There is a locking tab that you pull out, and the connector will come out - zip tie it somewhere stable and voila, after following my steps, now it works.

I should have thought of this, I ran into the same problem on my E92 M3!
Thank you very much, using these steps we coded out edc with the help of a local store. M1 & M2 buttons are working perfectly fine as well.

Very helpful thread.

Some pics to help others, although this thread is old and no one has asked any questions. Lol.

What you're looking for/at once you take the battery access cover:

Slide this tab to the right to unplug:

What the tab looks like when slid over:

Plug tidied up after unplugged:

I tried a few days ago to code away EDC / VDC in a F80 2017-07-21.
But then I got error code on airbag, stabilization system, brakes, diff and lost electrical servo control. However, the error with EDC / VDC was removed

Followed the recipe here. Removed 2VF from VO and VO code DSC, KOMBI, ICM, and HU_NBT.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? May I add or remove more VO codes?

Coding EDC off

Thanks pikcachu for this:

Remove 2VF from FA/VO and then VO Code the DSC, KOMBI, ICM, and HU_NBT

I also removed 3 fuses (124,148,160) insted of removing the EDC Box.. (just in case)

So far no problems, driving modes work as normal, I'll come back for update

I would also like to know how to code it back someday.. help

Has anyone tried this on an F22 with VDC?
I managed to delete 2VF and pulled fuses 124,148, 160. But i am unable to VO code the rest of the units. Does someone have the specific steps done in E-SYS to code the VDC out of the other modules?

Can't find these steps anywhere....everyone seems to skip the details and just say they VO coded them.

Thanks!

Ok this was the best post I could find for the EDC delete, but it left me (as a coding newb) with a few uncertainties. I put together a detailed video covering all the steps. Before I throw it up on YouTube, I wanted to know if there is a reason that there don't seem to be any videos showing steps already... will I get in any legal trouble for posting?

Hey, have you solve this problem? seems odd since i've did many cars with this kind of method but never faced error on what you mention above.

Since i've got many information out of this forums, i thought it's time for me to contribute also. here i attached the most detailed guide to code out EDC on your F8x M3/M4.

Hope it helps you guys out.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.....

I've followed the instruction as provided above, but am having a slew of error messages (restraint system, steering, drivetrain, headlight alignment failure, etc.) come up after recoding the ICM element after removing the 2VF entry.

I've restored from back up file, which has removed the error messages but the chassis error message has returned (coilovers fitted).

Any ideas on how to get around this or what I am doing wrong?

Fix update - As my M4 has the Comp pack fitted, i removed 7MN & 7MA from the SALAPA-element and recoded the ICM control unit only. This appears to have resolved all the error messages that had been brought up previously

One thing to note, the m buttons didn't work immediately after finishing the coding but after leaving the car overnight, they work fine this morning.
