They gave you a new M3 because of the paint?
Yep! My individual paint was less than satisfactory so they replaced it with a proper paint job.

@Srac wow, I feel really bad for you...

And I thought I had horrible dealearship experiences.

Regarding the unit, as others have pointed out, the headlight is a sealed unit, so normally there shouldn't be possible to recondition it.

However, I'd raise this to BMW NA and push for a new headlight since any new headlight shouldn't have those marks.

UPDATE: They agreed to get me a 3rd set of headlights. Hoping it comes without issues this time.

Design Engineer (specifically automotive Lamp design) here...

On the original post, that is indeed an issue. Moisture leaking most-likely, around Lens to HSG, control unit, or vent filter area. May be degradation of anti-fog coating. However, the replacement unit those are just "normal" marks that happen at the supplier BUT are ultimately within "spec" for the customer (BMW). They have standards for what is acceptable as appearance rejects (scratches, scuff marks, dust, etc.). And sometimes the service level parts have less strict standards as well. Personally I wouldn't make a big deal about it (eco-friendly response?), even my M3 has dust and small marks, but I'm not sweating it.

+1

BMW NA is actually pretty awesome with helping with major, unexpected things like this.

My 2018 F80 is starting to do this in the corners on both sides in an almost uniform manner right and left. Did the dealer ever say what the cause of this was? Has anyone been able to reverse this or at least stop it from spreading somehow?
