I opted to buy the easycare totalcare Warranty for my 2015. I now am covered til 104000 miles. I’m at 47k and driving the car like I stole it! The peace of mind is worth it, I say.

I bought the car used last sept with 36k miles and since then the water to air Ic leaked and was replaced, the diff was resealed or something and there was another small issue that was resolved via warranty. Nothing too big but made me want a warranty. Other than that it’s been awesome.

Those seem like no brainers. I checked out an M3 at Carmax before I bought mine and they quoted me $2700 for their plan, I think it was 5hr/100k, $500 deductible.

Guys, it seems like the only real worry that would concer me is the crank hub.

Retiming, or a 1% of getting a catastrophic engine failure.

The DCT tranny is pretty bulletproof, look at the old tech with the e92. and anything else.. if was to fail , sourcing a conponent and getting an indy shop to fix it.. 1000$ -3000$ ?

There's tons of 997 Turbo porsche out there running around with 60-100k... and Porsche engineering , or design for that matter .. is far more complex.

Like I said, my only concern would be a crank hub.

Still loved that car. hated to trade it in.
Battery is not covered under most Extended Warranties as far as I am aware.

Would be covered under a Maintenance Agreement.

You've heard the phrase "Once bitten, twice shy"? I'm still debating whether to get an extended warranty based on the experience with our first BMW, my wife's 2011 335is Coupe, which had the N54 engine. It was Le Mans Blue and had a 6MT.

We bought this car and did Euro Delivery in May 2011. Shortly after the car was re-delivered in the U.S. we discovered that the exhaust flapper valve was stuck open and that was replaced under warranty. Then the cruise control would quit functioning over 60 MPH, when we were most likely to use it. The car had to be completely reflashed to solve this problem. The moonroof started acting up, opening halfway and then closing again, or even worse, closing halfway and then reversing. After at least three attempts to fix that problem, the moonroof motor was replaced. The front brake pads cracked and the front brake pads and rotors were replaced, not once, but twice. During one out-of-town trip, the charge pipe cracked and was replaced under warranty. On another trip, one of the two turbos failed and was replaced under warranty. Sometime during the original warranty period, the paint started flaking off the front bumper, in the corners of the compound curves. It was repainted under warranty.

Based on these problems, we bought an extended warranty in January 2015. A few months later the coolant pump failed while my wife was coming home from work, on the transition ramp between two freeways and the car was flat bedded to the dealer. We paid a $50 deductible. Then, after I took the car in to have the airbags replaced (finally), I pulled into a parking lot near our house to stop for groceries and I heard a pop and the engine sounded like there was a marble in it. The car was flat-bedded to our dealer and they determined that it had spun a main bearing. The engine was replaced with a short block. They agreed to eat the $50 deductible. This was in spite of the fact that all oil changes were done at the dealer according to the schedule and I also did mid-interval oil changes. This was at 70,000 miles. The dealer estimated that this would have been a $10,000 job. We would have just sold the car as salvage.

After that, on another out-of-town trip, a coil pack failed. We bought one at an AutoZone and a mechanic friend of ours replaced it for us. After talking with our service manager about the failed coil pack, he agreed to look at the rest of them and ended up replacing the aftermarket coil pack and two more coil packs, and all six spark plugs. (Since it was a short block, all of these parts were transferred from the old engine.) This happened literally a few days before the extended warranty expired.

After the extended warranty expired the second turbo failed. We paid $600 for the labor and the dealer supplied the parts at no charge. Finally, the charge pipe failed again, but it was covered under an extended parts warranty, as that part was known to fail repeatedly and it's part of the emission system.

Once the charge pipe was replaced, we put the car up for sale and it sold with 72,000 miles on it for $17,000. We had already taken Euro Delivery on the replacement car, my wife's 2018 M3.

I think we paid somewhere between $2,000-$3,000 for the extended warranty. Was that extended warranty worth it? In our case, absolutely. I could buy another extended warranty for the M4, have nothing go wrong, and still be ahead. I rarely buy an extended warranty for anything else I buy, unless maybe it's cutting-edge electronics (my first $5,000 HDTV in 2001 for example), but the extended warranty on the BMW seemed to make sense, and I'm glad that I bought it. If you think that maybe my wife is hard on cars, her previous car was a 1999 Toyota Solara with a 6MT which she owned for 13 years and 140,000 miles. The only problem with that car was a failed clutch master cylinder three weeks after we bought it. I hated that car, but at least it was reliable.

The M4 is a different chassis with a different engine and I haven't had any problems with it. Should I get an extended warranty or not? I don't know and I've got until May to make a decision.
Quite the drama with the 335is. I had one also and loved it. Mine was a DCT. Had it Cobb protuned. Thing was fast as hell. It was a sad day when I wrapped it around a tree coming home late from work one night.

OP. I just turned In my 2016 M4 with 38,000 miles on it and the car had Zero issues. The F80/82/83s are bomb proof except for the crank hub. I might roll the dice on this one.

Good luck.

I bought an extended warranty with my M3. Haven't ever been burned in the past (although I usually wrench on my own and drive cars from pre-2000's) and am paying an extra $30 a month. The peace of mind for part cost at what's considered astronomically higher than what Im used to, as well as more technical labor is a no brainer.

The dealer can easily hit you with a $3k+ visit for any whatever (insert repair) + computer/module reprogram. My previous vehicle was a 2014 328 and the fuel pump went on me. Big inconvenience but an assumingely cheap fix, right? 3 day turn around, got rides to and from the dealer.. loaner.. whatever. $1500+ tab because the computer went with the pump, labor, some other BS. All warrantied but not something I would've wanted to pay... when I'm used to buying a fuel pump from parts store or online for $300 and doing a 3 hours of work.

Moral of the story: If you can pay to play, be my guest. I'm not saying that things are going to break, but it WILL be expensive. I, for one, didn't care to do the math. Take my car in, fix it and don't charge me a dime. Thank you!

I believe its 5yrs and 75k miles from the time of purchase.

Only thing is their warranties are not transferable, but after 2.5 yrs if you cancel they give you half the $ back.

For the guys on the fence on a warranty. Easycare warranties typically have 0% financing for up to 2 years! Great option!
