No but frankly I almost feel bad for some of the guys who have convinced themselves its a good looking ride and bought one. I am in many Atlanta based online car groups and people post their new $90k cars and get ridiculed over and over.

I usually don't care what people think about my cars, but that would probably suck and wear on a person after a while.

Essentially they post things like "looking to mod my G80 any good shops" and every response is "I hope you're modifying that ugly ass front end"

I love almost every 911 (exception being the 996), but I think the 992 finally crosses the line of looking too big for me. That new Touring still looks gorgeous but I think I prefer my 991 GT3T

I might change my mind when I see it in person, though. Looking forward to it.

Someone posted their new G80 all happy and giddy as their first M in the M facebook group and lets just say that the comment section was as miniature war between people calling it for what they saw and others telling them to shut up.

In the end it mostly seemed like people was upset that others would give their opinion as bluntly as they did on a new member post then actually disagreeing with the opinions.

I just said welcome and left it at that, I don't have the heart to say what others did, nor is it needed on such a post, to someone who seemed really happy with the new purchase, which, really, is kinda everything that matters in the end.
I can see the negativity everywhere you go taking a toll in the end, but it is what it is.

Sad state of affairs really, could've been so great but instead it's putting people on either side of a fence.

Those who dislike it say what they think and those who like it will die on a hill for it, neither side will back down. Luckily people have just started to avoid the conversation all-together because nothing ever changes and it just turns into a pity fight when we all should enjoy our cars as a community.

BMW seems to be trying their best to ruin that as they are unwilling to change their ways and just puts their fingers in the ears screaming like a kid to deafen the opposition.

That said, my F82 OLED styles should arrive this week hopefully, might be able to install them sometimes next week.
Hopefully they look as good as the LCI's

Here is the kicker:

Im over 40 years old and have been following and buying BMWs since I was 19. I watched how people reacted to the e46, the e90, the F80 and now the G80. I have never seen so much hate and controversy over the look of a BMW. NEVER! This is the first time you find people getting banned and internet fights breaking out! I say let the sales speak in due time. I'm willing to bet anything it will not sell as well as the F8X. It is not bounds and leaps above the F8X, its just slightly better and costs more! BMW has created a recipe for disaster. They are German, and they will not admit the mistake of that front grill. It is going to take time before sales change their minds. I have a feeling by 2023 or 2024 we will get a LCI model and that front girl will be divided by a horizonal bar of some sort!

The G8X will sell (at least the sedan, coupes in today's market will likely struggle), also have to remember there is an introduction of an AWD variant for the M3, which should easily also help boost sales and open up the audience of buyers to be much bigger as there is a large group of people who likely never bought an M3 due to BMW omitting this feature for so long. That being said, the X3/4M will pose an interesting proposition as with SUV's being king right now, I can see a lot of M3 buyers migrating to the X3, like how some C63 buyers have gone to the GLC 63 (with practicality and AWD being their reason for the switch).

For the money, if I were to pick between them, I'd probably go with the X3MC. If ED were still an option, I'd probably take back everything I've ever said about how heinous the G80 is and go get one.

It's hard to say and I can see both sides of the argument in regards to sales. My wife was excited and was ready to get an AWD M3 until.............well you know. Any way, it'll be interesting to see how many can get over the looks for the substance they want.

Anecdotal and obviously not scientific, but as we've seen it is an extremely polarizing design. She even said why not just get a nice looking AWD Audi instead. I can see that possibly happening a lot. We'll see in a couple of years.

Very few people want a M3/M4 in AWD. If you want AWD for driving in snow, you will be looking at X3/X5, non-M, Audi, etc. You buy a M1/M2/M3/M4 for that sporty, nimble, trackability but still full family/grocery/shopping fun!

I actually think there is a decent market for a good looking AWD M3 for quite a few reasons. Less so for the M4, but maybe. All only my opinion as I don't know shit from a market research standpoint.

Who is the market?

You gonna convert rear-wheel BMW market to buy AWD? NOPE

You gonna get people buying X3M/X5M to buy a AWD M3?? Very few at best, the cargo space is not there. I know a guy who drives a X5M and wont show up to a job site in a non-truck type vehicle.

So, who you gonna covert in numbers?

Like I said, I have no knowledge from an actual research standpoint. But I know a lot of people on this forum over the years have mentioned wanting an AWD M3(4) over the years. They like the way BMW does things and don't want an Audi for various reasons. This is how BMW screwed up. This car would've been a slam dunk runaway success both RWD and AWD had they not effed up the design IMO.

Not to mention bringing new people to the brand that are afraid to drive RWD cars no matter where they live and want AWD (because of stupid marketing over the years saying it is safer).

You are right, sedans are dying, but I think there is still a decent market for them and lot of us that still aren't fans of SUVs for various reasons.

There's definitely a market, even to that of the enthusiast, plenty of people on the G8X boards are waiting for AWD variants to buy, and even a few X3M owners want to get one to go with their X3M, and M340i owners are looking to upgrade. AWD was one option that prevented a group of people from not buying M3's and caused them to go to Audi, M340i, or even X3M. Another thing is there's also a large group of non-enthusiasts that buy BMW's and only care about 0-60, or are afraid to drive in snow/rain with RWD, and will buy AWD because of that.

Have you seen what modded F80/82s have put down? It's been a thing for quite awhile.

Oh I have. I myself managed 3.8-3.9 Seconds (1 foot) 0-60 without tune or LC. So it's there but you will always hear enthusiast say you dont buy a BMW for 0-60 numbers. 1/4 mile is more important.
