But now we're changing the subject from The Canadians. Did you know the British Columbia Coroners Service actually has created a handy map to show where they find all of their disembodied human feet? People, get a clue. This shit is happening. In Canada. |

btw. the regular Macan even with the Chrono Package that gives you the Sport Plus button makes the regular Turbo Inline 4 in the base Macan feels some what normal. Yeah the engine holds the rpms more and more responsive but that is it. The only thing about the Inline 4 in the base Macan is that, the car is much smoother to drive. Since it is an Inline engine in the car, the rotations of the chassis isn't there. Compared to the Macan S/GTS/Turbo with the TT V6, the those car's have a rougher idle and you can definitely feel the V6 move around and move the chassis about too. That is the biggest annoyance with the V6. I been so used to the smooth Inline 6 from BMW that even the V6 TT from Porsche feels too jittery. Sounds great though~ I wonder why Porsche didn't shove their Flat Four into the base Macan.

alright people, this post is going to be a long'un & totally meaningless except maybe to F83, and that's a BIG maybe, so ghost-out now or buckle the fuck up.
-------------- Last Chance to Exit ---------------------- [ I N T R O ] See, since I was a kid I've appreciated watches - growing up I had a bunch of swatches including the Yamaha, the Casios which transformed into RPN calculator love (by HP), and then the Casio graphing calculators ... but I always lusted, loved, and wanted a sweet manual or automatic like my Grandpa's Bulova dress watch. Over the years I've vaguely kept up with the watch scene but the idea of buying something expensive always terrified me as I'm not the most careful person - this proved true about 7 years ago when I finally bought a somewhat spendy (for me) watch: the Bathys Benthic Titanium. They're a micro-brand out of Kauai Hawaii and hand assembled by this dude, John Patterson who sadly quit the biz a few years back. Mine has a full class 5 titanium case, kevlar strap, and swiss ronda quartz movement. It's a fucking tank. John hand delivered it to me in poipu beach, we said our goodbyes, and 5 minutes later my swinging arm smacked a wood fence - the Benthic took a giant gouge out of it. oops. so, yeah, that's why I can't have nice things. Anyway, next came the release of the Swatch Sistem 51 (automatic movement with only 51 parts, 1 screw, all robot assembled). This was nostalgic, was an auto movement, and super innovative - I immediately bought $1000 worth of them. (one has a giant scratch now ) They're pretty niche, but I love the 21st century tech on a 19th century device. The Sistem 51s reignited my watch lust so for the last year I've been seriously looking but I've run into the same problem as last time: do I really want a super expensive watch? [ T O P I C ] So that led to some serious introspection, which is the topic of this post: Why would anyone spend money on an expensive (but impractical) watch? [ A N A L Y S I S ] I think there are 3 reasons: (1.) Trophy / Signaling effect (2.) Art Appreciation / Jewelry (3.) Functionality - they still do stuff Let's review. (1a.) Trophy A dude once said to me, "there's nothing wrong with a guy who's done well having a trophy". Eh, maybe, but that's actually a demotivator for me - I'd be a bit embarrassed TBH, not enough to not wear it, but still not a motivator for me. (1b.) Signaling effect Whatever else it says about you, a spendy watch signals a measure of financial success, or at least enough motivation to pretend. For me, that's never been useful careerwise (probably a detractor) and, as above, I've since learned the difference between pride and vanity and why one of those is bad. (2a.) Art Appreciation I definitely appreciate the history, the romance, and the craftsmanship of a nice automatic watch. Not enough where I love tourbillons or Patek's polished parts that are never seen, but a beautiful Ulysse, Omega, Breitling ... yeah, I definitely love them. As an example, F83 has an enviable collection of icons - if I had a collection, it would be just like his with the combination of history, romance, and style / art. (2b.) Jewelry I do like a watch for a fashion accessory - i'm not a fancy guy, but I do like picking my watch based on my mood. Plus interesting watches are great conversation starters - I get lots of compliments / questions on mine and it's always fun to chat with other watch enthusiasts. Unfortunately I've found that the majority of spendy watch people are in it for the trophy and have no clue about the watch - they know they have an "oyster perpetual" but have no idea what those words actually refer to. (3.) Functionality Even if what they do is redundant to a cell phone, a watch is a useful tool - I've convinced many-a-person why in a business meeting an analog watch over checking your phone is a key tool to have, and then there are sports uses of course. That means I tend to like GMTs, chronographs, etc and especially Breitling navitimers with a muthafuckin slide-rule! So fire. Sum it up: I like the art, craftsmanship, and functionality, the conversation, but dislike the trophy aspect and "high horology" for me (although I appreciate it). So by now, the zero people that are reading this are wondering - so are you gonna buy a spendy watch or not??? Well, the answer is going to be kinda. and possibly heresy to watch enthusiasts. [ C O N C L U S I O N ] I think I'm going to buy this as it's got the right mix of durability, functionality, low-key styling, and artsy craftsmanship. At first I was stunned such a wackyass frankenstein even existed, but the more I learned the move I liked. Here's to a lifetime of bad choices!

Apparently there's a big deal college football game here this weekend:
All of sudden there are all kinds of trolley cars and shit driving around - I hope people realize that's all fake. Like the first time I've seen one in a decade ... and the cops aren't taking any shit - you try to knock over a convenience store for a little spending money and they'll put you down: Plus some dipshits moved onto a billboard - can't really blame them, rent is outrageous. |

"Hi. I need some parts for my chainsaw."
"WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE GAME???! THE BEST EVER!!" " actually, I didn't know they were playing and I assume these days Canadians take the victory and glory and don't bother to watch" "RAIMO DID YOU HEAT THAT? ANNA DID NOT WATCH THE GAME AND SHE THOUGHT THW CANADIANS WON" "GET OUT OF MY STORE!" so okay, Finland is going to be a miserable place for me this spring. I guess I should've followed and just not assumed.

And after all that, I still have a 6×4m storage room filled to 1.5m hights with books mostly. Before my dad died I went to watch with him almost all the games and especially the juniors we both enjoyed watching and commenting on. Now I just have heavy excuses for completely forgetting tournaments.

3 am and I have the first load of books sorted! Not by topic, but by writers and only in stacks cuz it turns out sorting through books when dyslexic and tired should is not be done sober. Alcohol wasn't an option because I have to be up at 4.45 so I listened to music.
I can recommend my 6 year olds favourite band, the cannibal corpse to everyone who has to stay up for way too long. I'd love to know how he managed to lock the system to play only Meathook Sodomy and I really need to figure out how that system works but I mean I guess I can learn to love the subtle expressionism of the said group too.

So I'm filling up the car with gas, admiring a extremely bright red Ferrari California pulled in at a 7-Eleven. Beautiful car. And that I noticed the driver, smoking a cigarette up on the curb. Wearing a big bright red sweater that said........Ferrari. I thought that was stupid.
They got me and my son to talk about cars, the conversation migrated to which car I would like the most. And of course I said I would love to have a Ford GT. I think that's a gorgeous car. And what do I notice driving the opposite way on the road from me? What looked like a 1967 or 1968 Ford GT. It didn't look like one of the new ones. But it may have been a kit car, or maybe I just didn't get a good look at it. It was in the baby blue racing paint of the late 1960s Ford GT. ps The picture is of a car similar to the one I saw. Not the actual car. |

Yeah, the one I saw was definitely either a kit car or an original. Hard to imagine somebody in McKinney Texas driving around in an original Ford GT on the street though. I believe they retail between $3 and $6 million.
