M performance Electronic Steering Wheel Display repair

Hello everyone, I was wondering if it's possible to replace the plastic piece for the steering wheel display. Name: Screen Shot 2019-02-20 at 21.42.47.png

I’m trying to understand your question. Only the electronic steering wheel has this display. It’s 100% not available to purchase separately from BMW or anyone. I don’t think anyone is willing to put forth the effort of replicating this complex display, only to just sell 1 or a few and also not make it correctly. I don’t think anyone has tried remove the display from the steering wheel, ever. That’s why your best hope is to find someone willing to sell the steering wheel by itself.

Oh apologies let me rephrase this better; Is it possible to replace the tinted clear plastic piece that protects the shift lights and display (because there are screws) with another tinted clear plastic piece from another donor wheel?

To best answer the question, I’m sure it’s possible to remove the display from a donor wheel, but due to the fragility of the material and wiring, not 100% sure if it’s going to work again after it’s removed. I’m also not sure of the display is plugged or soldered onto the steering wheel. Please let us know if otherwise.

I guess I'll start by attempting to remove the screws and take it from there, will keep this post updated.

Yes, remove the wheel, remove the display, reinstall the display, and let us know if it still works. Like I meintioned, it won’t be possible to buy a brand new display, but it will at least tell us if it’s possible to remove and replace it.

Good luck

I have a solution if you're handy.
You can buy a replacement lcd module but it doesnr work through the oem wiring.
It has its own wiring and module. Pulls info from the obd port via a wireless dongle.
Its a pain but doable.

And ur welcome Kev 😅.

Can someone tell me if this is cracked or scratches? And if it's fixable? Thank you
