How to disable M3 / M4 Active Sound

Good news for all of you who do not like the artificial onboard sound coming from the active sound module via speakers:

Your BMW dealer can just delete it with his standard obd system:
there is an option "Unterdrückung ASD" which is per default deactivated.
just acivate it and .......

all artificial noise will be gone :-)))))

Finally, juhuu!

How does it sound without it? Better or worse? More raw? Or is it pretty much the same?

I kind of like the sound. I feel like without it, the cabin would be too quiet.

I feel like this is something I would like to keep until I get an exhaust.

I actually liked the sound during my time in the car... just think maybe the sound + exhaust would be a no-go.

You can also delete it out with basic coding.

If someone does the delete, I wouldn't mind hearing a sound clip of what the cabin sounds like afterwards. I too have gotten to a point of liking the artificial engine noise, but every once in a while I catch myself thinking it's just not right!

It'll be interesting to see where this thread goes...

Not too long ago before any cars were delivered there was non-stop bitching about the artificial sound and desperation to find a way to deactivate it. Now after a few posts, and an apparent solution to delete it, people want to keep it because they like the sound.

Make up your mind guys, now there's a solution to that nasty artificial sound and you want to keep it ??? I don't get it....

No, what is happening is that different p[eople have different opinions. Some like the the extra sound, some don't. Some people have even changed their minds!!!111!!!oneoneone!!! Imagine that.

Not everyone has to have the same opinion. Nor does everyone have to keep that opinion perpetually.

So, yeah.

Anyways, I have always wanted to get rid of the ASD, and as soon as my coding cable gets here today, it will be gone. But it's perfectly okay that some people like the ASD.

Dave 90TT,
As I've posted above, and since you are getting a coding cable and plan to delete ASD, would you please post before and after recordings from inside your cabin if it's not too much trouble. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in this. Thanks

Not sure why it would bother me. If you didn't tell me, I wouldn't know there was ASD.

Your own words help explain your confusion. People complained about it before they took delivery of their cars when they had never heard it. Now that they have their cars, they like the sound. Also, most people can't tell what part of the sound is ASD. That's why they are asking to hear it coded out.

Actually they did hear the sound on audio clips but decided beforehand they didn't like it. It's OK though, everybody is entitled to change their mind. I might be in that camp as well when I finally get mine....

I'd like to hear the difference as well. Either that, or read a review from one of you folks who does the delete. I do kind of like the ASD (and no I was not one of those bitching about it previously), but I'm curious what the alternative would sound like.

Hearing audio clips and hearing it in person are two different things. If you can't tell what is ASD in person, you could never tell from an audio clip.
