yes, the running in check counts towards an oil service interval

Sitting at my dealer and the CBS data indicates I need plugs at 84000 kms (52200 mi)which is 4000 kms(2500mi) after the warranty expired for the free servicing.$1366 is what I was quoted to get this done with 6.4 hours labour!Does this seem in line!

Wakdady says every 3rd oil change the dealer should change the spark plugs. So if you had your 1200, the first one is at 10k, second at 20k, you would be due for plugs. If you don't drive a lot, it's still every 3rd oil change, I don't see how you wouldn't get the plugs before the free service is out?

6.4 is way too much. Warranty time pay is 30fru for spark plugs on an S55. Which is 3 hours. Dealers always charge more than warranty time when it's customer pay of course but that's more than double warranty time. Anything more than 4.5 hours would be Over charging in my opinion.

So for me it would've been December / 2015 - 1200 miles run in SERVICE October / 2016 - 4k mile oil CHANGE October / 2017 - 8k SERVICE? October / 2018 - 12k mile oil CHANGE October / 2019 - (4 year maintenance would be up by October 15th, 2019) I'm trying to see where my plugs would be due.. if we factor every 10k as the "service" then I'm guessing I'd be due on my October 2019? Thanks for your help! |

I think BMWs recommendation of changing the plugs on the third oil interval estimates that the car will have probably 24,000 miles at that point. I have had interim oil changes every 5000, which means I had five oil changes when they changed the plugs. I also have about 25 track days on my car? So I change my oil pretty frequently

Went to Dealership for my 3rd CBS with 19,000 miles on my 2016 F80 and was told that spark plugs, air filters and oil will be changed with this service. I dropped car off at 8:30am (not sure when mechanic actually started) and car was still not complete by 4pm. I went by the dealership after work to see status and saw engine parts everywhere . I told the mechanic to take all the time you need to put it back together... It really does seem like a lot of work to change these spark plugs. I'm glad this is covered under the maintenance plan , but not looking forward to covering the cost after the maintenance plan is done

Just had a bit of sticker shock as my car is in for its 6th service and no longer under service warranty. Didn't think much when I dropped it off and they said spark plugs, but he called back to let me know it was billed at 5.3 hrs at $1xx/hr plus parts.
I'm not necessarily eager to spend the 4 to 5 hours doing it myself, but I feel like ~$1000 is steep for spark plugs. I honestly didn't know S55 service could be this expensive - might be time to look at extended service plan. I don't even remember my S54 service being this expensive, and that included the valve adjustments. Don't recall paying this much for S65 spark plugs either. Anyone had a private shop change their plugs? |

Or if you had a good relationship with an SA at your dealership, ask if he knows a mechanic that works there and wants to make a few bucks on the side to do it for you. |

To be clear, I ended up telling him to hold off on the plug change. I just couldn't stomach paying that much. I'll shop around and have them changed out soon. |

Way to go! I am looking forward to put that many miles on my 2017. At 6.5 right now. To me spark plug set at $150 already steep. Can't see how it's going to take more than 3hr DIY

I had plugs installed at 30,000 miles. I got the dreaded drivetrain malfunction & flashing check engine light at 41,000 miles. I took it in to bmw and the tech says #4 plug is misfiring. The work order says to change not only #4 plug but all plugs. Now I question whether they really changed the plugs at 30,000 miles.
