E90 M3 Weight VS. E92 M3 Weight
Ive searched for some weight threads and havent found what I am really looking for. Anyone have a super stripped down E90 or E92?
Im talking no options at all, no roof, no packages, nothing. Also, to compare: a loaded up E90/E92 with all the options TIA!

My 08 E90 was 3,660 with 3/4 of a tank of fuel...
- 6MT - No Sunroof - Speed Cloth (power seats) - 18" Wheels w/PS2s OE sizes - It DID have: iDrive Enhanced Sound Cold Weather Package I will be interested to weigh my 2011 E90 when it gets to me from Euro Delivery. I went all leather and got a few more options the second time around, most notably ZCP.

Does it really matter? I buying the car to enjoy it. Just loose some weight if your worried about the car weight overall. (22 pounds and you enjoy all options. )

For the OP - a like for like E90 M3 v E92 M3 will have approx 20 kg difference in weight - in other words if you are a fat bloke in an E92 and i am thin in an E90 my car will weigh less or if you have a full tank of fuel and i have half a tank then the E90 will weigh less.................that is how small the difference is, forget about weight and buy the M3 which suits you best.

well the reason I brought the thread up was because my previous E46 M3 was stripped bone dry. The ONLY option was leather, and it was pretty dag on fast for what it was lol... This is what I had: 04 M3 6spd 4.10 gears Euro headers Euro cats SS Mid pipes AA exhaust K & N drop in filter Big bore throttle bodies Custom software Pulleys UUC SSK "Weight savers I guess" BBS LM's Brembos OEM CSL front bumper OEM CSL trunk Bonus Pics Check out this link:

Also you can drop 30 pounds just by removing the trunk carpet, mobility kit and foam, owner's manuals and floor mats. Check out the thread with photos: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373836 1/4 tank of gas is about 12 gallons from full, so 72 pounds difference just between a full and near-empty tank. The E92's lower CG from the lower overall height and carbon roof are probably a lot more important to ultimate performance difference between the two cars than 20 pounds or whatever the real difference is. Even if the CG is only a couple tenths of an inch lower that's pretty significant.

nav and enhanced audio together add somewhere around 15-20 lbs put together I'm sure the fold-down seats add some amount of weight, so a sedan without them would be lighter The EDC system is marginally heavier but not by enough to matter, like two pounds? So, yes, because 50 pounds is significant, though maybe not in a stoplight weenie-measuring contest. If you follow the old formula of 100 pounds being worth one tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile, you're looking at 5 hundredths. 5 hundredths of a second at 110mph is about a half a carlength if you want to put it in skr33t rac3r terms, which is easily lost if you forget to do a burnout before the green light (works best in school zones). That same variance is easily lost in the noise (10whp is also worth about one tenth of a second, how many of our engines dyno within 10whp of eachother?). But, if you want to build the absolute fastest M3 possible, duh, the lighter one will be faster. It's more significant around a racetrack like Road America where 50 pounds on a car like this is worth about 0.25 seconds. On many qualifying grids that's the difference between pole and 5th. In track day terms, a lighter car is easier on everything; brakes, tires, clutch, engine, fuel, everything lasts longer when the car is lighter. For a street car it doesn't really matter. I chose a low-options car because I wanted simplicity, not because I cared about the weight (aside from the moonroof, which IMO noticably affects handling).

Here is another data point based on my M3:
E92 DCT, bone stock with iDrive, carbon roof, extended leather, premium sound, OEM 19", 1/4 tank full, zero luggage with me (80kg) sitting in during measurment: FL: 442kg (974lbs) FR: 383kg (844lbs) RL: 404kg (890lbs) RR: 377kg (831lbs) Total weight with driver and 1/4 tank full: 1,606kg (3,539lbs) Total weight ex driver ex 1/4 tank full: 1,526kg (3,364lbs) The above looks optimistic but that's what the scale showed. It was measured in a machine which tests shock absorber performance (measurment printout is available). Weight was measured per wheel independently firstly for the front axle and then for the rear one. |

In your dreams . The MSO (original title issued by BMW) lists 'shipping weight' of my fully optioned E92 M3 at 3,704 lbs, which means basically no gas but with everything else. No M3 weighs less than 3,600+ lbs, even without any gas, period.

Absolutely. That's the way car mags do it, and they have very accurate scales. I remember all M3 test weights I read were well into the 3,600-lb range (most rag cars are fully-loaded), as expected. The only question is how much fuel they had (equipment is usually listed on top). Perhaps you can do some digging and report back here .
