Would it make sense to run 285 front and 295 rear to get around this?

Does PFC warranty this? 331

Second one I’ve had this happen to at only half life. Thankfully I have the spare from when it last happened so I don’t have to use new ones.

COTA with Chin was awesome this past weekend! Very much enjoyed hanging with a bunch of BMW Track Rats including OG Shark and many others. Also enjoyed getting to know my M2 Competition better. More mods in the works.

I decided to go in a different direction on seats (pending bc I want to go sit in a bunch more seats before I decide), but my loss will be someones gain as I just posted my Tillett seat up for what I think is a good price if anyone is interested.

What are the thoughts on the pricing on the GT4's pricing at this point. At under 100k, it seems a good place to start from even if you are going the GTMore route for aero?

M4 gt4s are fantastic value if you have a tow rig etc.

Only other consideration is that a fair bit of track days around me explicitly require street legal cars. Depending on what you’re doing on track that may or may not matter.

That's the first I hear of it. I mean, if Porsche guys can't bring 991 Cup cars up against street driven M3s, the universe might end

Haha

But yeah, I’d say about half the events around me explicitly require street legal cars. How hard they look is another matter.

Anyone here, especially the hangman, happen the have the part #s for the OEM CV boot clamps?

Realoem does not list them, just the axles as a whole, and the only reference I've found online are the following from a post a few years back:
Outer:Clamp 9mm Band Stepless Ear Oetiker 167, Stainless, Clamp Size 75.5mm
Inner:
Clamp 9mm Band Stepless Ear Oetiker 167, Stainless, Clamp Size 42.5mm

Called the dealer and they weren't helpful and also called Bimmerworld but haven't heard back from them yet.

Earlier this season I went through chewing up some boots until I got my GTmore rear bar sorted (super annoying)... but unfortunately the whole thing is a single piece, there is no separate clamp. The boot is a taper/press fit onto the axle, so there is no simple clamp/boot replacement, which is why there's no separate/individual OEM part #s for the components, just the axle itself. It's super annoying. I have a couple chewed up axles sitting at VAC, they may have a lead on an outfit that can rebuild them properly but waiting to hear back

My boots aren't damaged and the joints were just repacked and new auto parts store clamps installed. I just want to remove the auto parts store clamps and install whichever vendors clamps BMW uses as OEM.

Bimmeworld, if they get to it, was going to quote me the motorsports parts they use for this so it must be possible versus just replacing the entire axle.

Hmm, interesting. Next time you're under the car, would you mind snapping a few pics of what your boot/CV joint looks like with those clamps on and posting? All indicators that we've had are that they're not "repairable", but would love to be proven wrong. Thx

Out of curiosity, who disassembled and re-packed? You did it?

I disassembled, Shadow repacked, and I reassembled with Napa clamps.

Will be doing more cleaning of old grease and new OE clamps hopefully end of the week so expect photos then.

The only thing I’d be concerned with as far as “repair” was if the boot was torn and I had to replace it. That would require pulling the axle.
The repacking process is easy as you can just cut the old one time use clamps out and install new.

Edit: I did have photos from when I first spotted the issue and did a bit of clean up.

Thanks -- but I was nearly certain that the original axles did not have any kind of removable clamp even remotely similar to what your photos show. I even took them to RPC Driveline near me (apparently they get rebuild work from all over the country) and they basically said the same thing. What am I missing?

Oh yeah, you can definitely reclamp them. It has happened to us more than once on a single weekend, such a pain.

Hmm, interesting. What exact failure did you have requiring a re-clamp? The boot connection just separated but without tearing?
