apple car-play take-over annoyance

Within the last few days, apple car-play has decided that I only want to listen to apple music. I can switch the car to presets or satellite or FM, apple car-play will, within a few seconds, automatically switch back to apple music. To say that this is an annoyance is an understatement.

A google search reveals that this is not a new issue; however it is new to me and there does not seem to be a universal fix.

Can anyone help me? The car is a 2018 with the charger in the console.

You probably have either a short in your charging cable or an app running in the background.

Thank you for the response. The issue arises even without connection to a charging cable. I should also have clarified that it switches to whatever music is playing on the phone (apple music, pandora, amazon music etc). Some gremlin is switching the music source (when connected with apple carplay) to my phone, repeatedly and persistently.

If I connect the phone to the car without opting for carplay, the issue goes away. I guess I'll have to forego looking at waze on the idrive screen for now.

If you use other music apps within apple car play like Pandora, does it force it back to Apple Music?

No. It just defaults to, and continues to switch back to, whatever is playing on the phone (but only when the phone is connected via apple car play).

switch off CarPlay in the phone
enable it again
connect to the car

Unfortunately, I tried all that, twice. I may try to connect my son's phone to see if it causes the same issue. His iphone is much newer than mine.

Before connecting my son's phone, I re-connected my phone to the car via apple carplay. I did not reset anything or hit "delete device" or re-install the app. But, the problem seems to have disappeared just as it came - without my changing anything. I hope it is not temporary...

For anyone interested in this problem, it has returned. Further research appears to place partial blame on the waze app. I hope this problem is not contagious.
