Yeah, I lost $120 to some sack of crap on the forum trying to buy some TPMS sensors.
He swore the phone number he gave me for his PayPal was wrong.

I've learned my lesson years ago. I don't send a dime unless it's for goods/services. If you don't want to deal with it then someone else can buy.

Yeah good luck - they certainly weren't on my side on a very blatant eBay scheme.

+1. Don't count on Ebay to have your back in disputes.

Same happened to me with a set of wheels last year via paypal. I paid via paypal on my cell but the app did not disclose all of the sellers info thoroughly. Seller want me to WIRE funds but his online profile listed VA as his location iirc. Such BS. Can’t remember the guys name but I have the paper trail. Wanted to get my money back before any PSA. What a waste of time that was with DM and communication as paypal wants you to try to resolve with the seller first. Just be firm w/o being disrespectful and it will work out. Worst of all he tried to put the guilt trip on me. You will get the money back from paypal it just takes time. The amount of time some ppl have on their hands is beyond me.

Hopefully you used a CC. Put a dispute against it on your CC if Paypal doesn't come through. They have the buyer protection to avoid dealing with CC disputes as too many disputes costs them to have to pay higher fees or get blocked from accepting CC.

Pro Tip: When in doubt, ask the seller to text a photo of the item with their username written on a piece of paper. Also take a screenshot of their original FS thread.

Genuine marketplace sellers often comply when they have no hidden motives.

That’s how it’s done on a Focus RS forum that I belong to. Each seller has to have a piece of paper with username and date included in every picture they post of item. Pictures must be included along with description. Works well!

Yep, I've seen that practice on many forums over the years, if there's nothing shady going on no seller should be unable to do a simple verification step of sorts.

I always look for a forum with a reputable feedback system. It's not 100%, but it does help

I just dont get scamming someone.
