Won't go into a lot of detail about my past, but I talked to a woman who was suspected of keying a benz. She denied it and I asked to see her car keys. Inside the center groove of one of her keys was paint flakes which had pushed into it, of course matching the benz. Instant gratification for the guy who owned the car. Sometimes it works out...

Lol how the hell did you get her to show you her keys?

And if she did key it, why the hell would she show you her keys? Idiots.

I feel your pain. Someone keyed the whole drivers side of my car at the end of July. 5 panels had to be repainted (hood, front & rear quarter panels and both doors). Took 6 weeks to fix and cost about $3,800. Its sad that ppl would stoop to this level.

Which Sterling do you use?

I just found out my car was keyed this morning. I'm not that mad honestly. It's part of driving the car on public roads, and interacting with idiots.

Won't be the first time it happens, won't be the last.

Actually when this happened my immediate reaction was that I just felt bad for the person who keyed my car. I just figured wow, life must be very difficult for them to take out their rage on a complete strangers car, like a coward.

Anyway, sorry OP. Hope you feel better soon.

The one in Tustin is the actual shop. The extension is at Sterling BMW in Newport Beach. They just send the cars over to Tustin to get worked on.

To explain myself, I was the one who detained the woman in the lot and had her show me her keys. A witness saw her near the car and she denied being there. I found the paint flakes in the slot in the key that matched the guys car. I took her to jail and she later paid restitution. ( Hope I don't get any bad comments about my work )
...worst one I saw, was a girl who caught her boyfriend cheating and poured muratic acid on a new corvette then slashed the conv top and leather seats with a razor..told him it was better the car than him.

Its weird how people's minds work. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a "fancy" car. A friend of mine has a year-old Accord sedan. Some sort of dark mineral grey paint scheme; nice but not something that would seem to jump out at you. Someone ran a key up and down half the driver's side of the car when he was parked at a mall.

I know that feeling...here some tips...I'm sure most know these especially when you baby your car :-)

- park next to a nice car too.
- don't park next to a beater, cars that soccer moms drive, teenager car like a station wagon, muscle cars, japanese cars like a corrola, cars with long doors like cadillacs
- park on a corner when all possible
- park where there's plenty of light or one where there's cameras
- don't park crooked or take 2 spots
- avoid where there's plenty of traffic
- park where it can be seen
- don't park next to an AMG!
- avoid minivans
- don't park next to a car with baby car seats
- avoid parking next to a handicap space.
- avoid parking in fast food joints
- avoid parking next to alcohol establishments
- avoid parking near motor bikes
- avoid parking in dark areas
- avoid parking in movie theater where there are plenty of teenagers
- avoid parking too long in one spot
- interchange parking places, don't always use the same spot...envy sets in
- do park far away from other cars as much as possible!
- do check on your car as often as possible!

Rhyme or reason to stupidity. Last year a dumb 16 year old kid got caught keying 5 cars on his walk home from working at the local grocery store. All were in a line parked on the street.

Sorry about your car OP.

When my e92 M3 was hit in my driveway my insurance company insisted I file a police report. There was a carfax. When I was rear ended in my GT3RS there was no police report filed and no carafax. Sorry you have to go through this but it will be in the rear view mirror in no time.

Really Sorry this hear about this. I think twice and try to avoid the K-marts, Walmart type places in this world when driving a nice car. Parking in a far way spot where your car is isolated will likely draw more attention at a place like that. The reality is at those stores you car is more likely to have an encounter by some welfare collecting societal parasite with a chip in his shoulder. It sucks but this is the world we live in.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear this. It's a great fear of mine as well, especially with the political climate/class warfare going on.

Do you have any stickers or a personalized plate that would charge anybody outside of just having a nice car?
