No more than the E92.

Cup holders

Any one know what the deal is with cup holders? They're not in the same spot as E90/E92. Doesn't look like they exist in the center console. I think I may have spotted one on the far left of the drivers side to the right of a strip of buttons. Is that one of them?

Center console where the ash tray would go. There is a change tray that fits over it then it pulls out and 2 cup holders are there

The cupholders are there... they are just covered. You have to remove the tray cover and place it neatly in the special netting to hold it in the glove compartment. One of the electrical outlets is behind it in the little magical door behind the tray. The door compartments aren't big enough to hold large bottles of water. But who cares... you won't spill your coffee as much as you would have in the E9X - those cup holders are deeper. For those getting their sbuxxx in their new m3/4.

Looks amazing. I must say though I'm pretty disappointed they didn't stick with the "oversquare" design that was initially published. Kind of gave the s55 it's own identity over the n55. Not to mention you don't really want an undersquare block when revving high..
Maybe they wanted to produce more torque down low and focus the powerband of the turbos up top?

Anyways I'm sure the head and cams are probably different to make power all the way to 7600rpm.

It does, depends on what range though. While not much data, a few OTS tunes run 18PSI @ around 4000 which tapers down to 12-13 at redline. Makes for a nice torque curve!

I'm sure with even with max 18psi boost on the S55, we'll have some head room with the efficiency curves of the new turbines. Sacrifice heat & long term reliability with some fun? Worried about the top end though, those curves due to the top mounted IC seems too tight.

It all comes down to tuning really.

Turbo and electric steering look great on paper, but have a greater tendency to dis-engage the driver and make for a more numb and artificial driving experience, in my experience.
Honestly, the elextric steering in BMW's have come a long way. Driving a 2012 with EPS vs a 2014 with EPS is quite a big difference. With the msport even on a 328i, it makes for a pretty fun car to drive on the street without breaking too many barriers ( the law ). hell both the 335i & X1 28i w/ EPS and msport is a blast to drive, and I'm sure the M will be that much better to drive.. If not, then well..... not much to say then is there..

All I can safely say is that I am rather pleased with what I see here and I think the next few years are going to be rather exciting in this segment. BMW has made the first move with this new M3/M4. Interesting to see what Merc and Audi do with the AMG and RS models respectively. Once all these models are out in the market, shopping for a new car is going to be awesome so needless to say I am very much looking forward to that and in the meantime enjoying my NA V8 engine....sweet as a nut she is.

Oh and somebody else said it a few pages ago...the M3 looks a bit like a baby M5 and its really gorgeous, well they both are.
AMG already confirmed that they will keep the V8 for the C but it will drop to 4.2 with Turbos and this make sense!!! you still get a great engine with some fuel efficiency, not this Fart Box !!!!!!

Beautiful line-up

I'd love to see BMW put together a huge image of their current line-up because they look all look amazing. M235i (we can leave the ugly-duckling M135i out) next to M3, M4, M5, M6, M6 GC -- all in Alpine White

Love all the new pics and info

Please forgive me if this was answered in the 11 pages of posts

Do we have a definitive breakdown of the different driving modes as far as what is enabled/disabled in comfort, sport and sport+?

for example, I have read that DTC/DSC is disabled in some modes and the automatic rev-matching is only avaliable in comfort and sport?

I'm sure the engine will hold up just fine. In my opinion it probably has a very good flowing head compared to the n55 which dies after 6k. That allows it to keep revving and keep making power. It does worry me though that it has such a long stroke compared to its bore. Whereas the S65 can take some extra rpms with an upgraded tune, I don't think this will be able to safely rev to 8k without getting some sort of upgraded vibration damper.

I wonder if the original "oversquare" block specs will be introduced in the competition package. Now THAT would be sick.

Keep in mind that the I6 is one of the best balanced engines around. It has absolutely no primary or shaking, force or moment imbalances. It is slightly better balanced than the cross plane V8 in the S65. Vibrations will not be any signficant limiting factor in this engine.

Just thinking out loud, but hey you never know. The GTS had an different engine.

It's just throws me off as to why BMW would have even published that.

Yes in theory it is better balanced, but still it can become a problem. Just look at the s52 and m54 engines.

Edit: not saying it will become a problem at stock rpm limits. I'm talking more in terms of raising the redline for track engines.

One thing I'm curious about that I haven't seen much talk about is Center of gravity.

Could just be marketing, but if they really achieved a significant reduction on CoG - that is going to have some really tremendous impact.

When I watch the videos of a stock e9x m3 going around the track and I watch videos of the f8x m3/m4 being tracked, I feel like the F8x platform is much flatter and quicker to change direction. I'm being subjective here and using my eyes as the judge, so make your own opinion. It's a bigger vehicle now so I've been watching body control very closely. The f8x seems to rebound a bit more aggressively but it's always tightly controlled and the speed and composure in which it changes directions is startling in a sedan of it's size.

IDK if it's chassis stiffness, CoG, weight reduction, suspension tuning, etc....but I'm really extremely curious to see how it all comes together. I think this new m3 is going to post some very surpising lap times when the time comes.
