To a point. You can drive in pretty hard and get back in the throttle aggressively. But 3/4 way up the hill starts to break and the car gets light.

You have to get the turn finished early so the car isn't side loaded too heavily and have the wheels straight when it lifts off. If you get it right the car will move left and come out right on the white line at the top of the hill.

Finally broke through the 1 minute barrier on a mostly stock BMW M2 running on "street" tires. No slicks and no engine mods. Fist session of the day, on 7.22.2019.
Congrats on getting into the 59's!!

Very nice! Did you install all the mods at once or die you race with stock springs for a while? Big difference with the new springs?

I did all at once and I ordered Eibach springs only because I thought I bent stock springs while DIY-ing the camber plates. I heard Eibach is slightly firmer but not as firm as ZCP springs and don't think there would be much difference except cosmetic.

Edit: lol I am gonna stop talking about that god damn Miata

Yeah, had to give them a try after everything I've been hearing/reading. The consensus has been accurate, they grip immediately and offer more grip than the NT01s. But they are temperamental and get greasy, needing to be cooled down after a few hot laps. Also, I don't think they will last longer than a handful of days. I've got three days on mine and they are already looking very beat up.

Was a bit lucky in that we had the perfect conditions: cool day, with lots of rubber laid down from the IMSA guys two days before. But I wish my official lap was a little more convincing, rather than 59.9x. But, I'll take it. I had a best rolling lap of 59.5 and theoretical best of low 59s. So, you know, even though I said to myself that I would ease up after breaking the minute mark, now I wonder if 58s are possible.
Awesome run.... were you just lifting in the downhill, or brushing the brakes?

Thanks.

I'm giving a soft brush of the brakes. It turns in fine like this but mid corner sometimes gets a little squirrely

Hi everyone, just purchased a used F80 M3 and I'm hoping to do some slight tweaks to it make it faster than my Time Attack STI I previously had which ended up doing some Subaru things. Anyway, this is just my first post so my account can hopefully get opened up where I can start a new thread and pick some of your brains. TNIA!

Ridge is a fun track! Only driven Miata there so far but next year I am thinking about taking my M4 there. I just hate poor lodging options there (hate Shelton 8 for bleach smell in beds) that had keep me away from there. (Same for ORP. tall winds motel is a horror)

The track is a 2h drive away from home, and the Track Nights are in the evening so I don't need lodging - never thought about that before, but it makes sense.

There's a guy in a Miata (there were other Miata's too) that did a sub 2 minute at the end of the day, that's pretty fast IMO.

Interesting to hear it's not that close from Seattle either! My plan is to hop onto some track buddies' camper or trailer with my sleeping bag. Won't be so comfortable but better than paying $100 and still being uncomfortable.

Sub 2 minute is pretty fast for a Miata if that is not power-modded (turbo or engine swap). I've done 3 days with HOD there and I did 2:05.4 with Dunlop ZII star spec tires. With RE-71r and more learning I could get real close to 2 min but not sure about sub 2 minutes. On the other hands I believe our F8x can do sub 1:50 probably with just good tires and surely with MCS and good tires- you can do it sir!

You gotta fill up his mirrors more, i.e. get on his bumper, to get the point by from a Porsche.

Little bit of lava orange on lava orange abuse from last year. Lol how that 991.2 GT3 with PDK punks my Carrera down the straights!

Haha that's right. They don't usually easily give out point by until they get stressed and figure out they are a lot slower than the car behind.

Update on my lap time, down by few tenths. This was done in the morning while I was still not up to speed at several places. I call it '10 AM magic.'
Improved both lines and driving throughout the day and was able to consistently reproduce 1:25.6-8 even in afternoon, which means I will be able to do 1:24s in next 10 AM magic. Virtual best is 1:24.77.

But things are getting expensive. The brand new DS1.11 was at 3-4mm after 4.5 sessions. An E92 friend had similar issue and he said getting MCS solved that issue. That's another $5k upgrade!

That's pretty aggressive wear, that track doesn't look too brutal on brakes either? I'm guessing that the stock rotors two piece-ish design is still compromised with out having an aluminum hat? Have you taken any temperature measurements to see how hot the fronts are getting? Is that wear rate even front to rear?

+1. Something doesn't seem right...the DS1.11s wear very well especially when brand new. They can easily get thru 2 weekends with Chin (extended sessions).

At least hardest on brakes between tracks near Oregon, front straight braking from 138, back straight braking from 142. In the video I wasn't braking at 100% at front straight due to the Porsche. It gets hot enough to melt tire valve cap. It only happened to front pads.

Yeah recalling my previous set of pads it lasted ~3 track days, though I am driving faster every time. One factor would be that I ran my pads till backing plates at last track day and they were machined at 0.1-0.2mm below minimum. Would it be the reason for that? I have a new set of oem rotors ($500) that I can put on and see how it differs; but I am thinking whether I should return them and get a slotted rotor like stoptech (but... at $1200).

Edited: question is whether below would apply to track driving as well

"1. A ROTOR’S MINIMUM THICKNESS SPECIFICATIONS ARE BASED ON HEAT
False: The discard or minimum thickness specification is based on the travel of the caliper piston if the pads are worn to the backing plates.

If you had worn pads and a rotor that’s below specification, there is a possibility the piston could start leaking and become dislodged from the bore, causing a failure of the brake system. Heat, warping and fading have nothing to do with discard specifications. "

https://www.brakeandfrontend.com/bra...rs-pads-myths/

Edited2: I think mostly likely it's due to the rotors. Thanks for confirming that something isn't right.

Remember your rotor is a heatsink and the less material there is the less of a sink it will be. Definitely look into trying to make the two piece stuff happen, made a night and day difference on my STI, went from overheating the system in one session to surviving an entire weekend worry free! Glad I'm getting into the F8X game where some competition is heating up on this front.

Did the west coast give up? Where are all the Laguna/Sonoma/Buttonwillow times? It's been forever since anyone shared from those tracks.
