You obviously are not on Corvette Forum. I suggest you take a little trip over there and see for yourself.

Both of my M3's had just as much orange peel as any of my prior C6 Vettes if it's any consolation. Neither are Lexus quality paint shops.

Actually, I need to apologize, I was thinking you were referring to another "gap"
I am not a fan of that spoiler, I think it looks like an afterthought, and that it should have been intergrated into the body more

Bad carbon and paint job.
So, those cars at events, wouldn't tehy be pre-prodction cars? And the one at the dealer, would that a pre-production display car?

For events I can't say but at this point where I already started to see cars on the street, most likely not, at the dealers 100% sure not, but if you read my statement, it was a client's car with license plates on it, we couldn't seat in it as it was already sold.

A BMW dealer in London is advertising the M4 as a V6. It never ceases to amaze me how little dealers know about the cars they are trying to sell.

I was talking to my dealer today when I was having a look at the new 4 series and he knew nothing about the M4 other than having seen the yellow concept pics, a week after the press reveal of the specs they didn't even know any of that, quite unnerving

So basically slightly modified 335 engine?

Also, what the hell is this cheap garbage? Who does this?

ACTIVE SOUND

Live amplification of the S55 engine's natural sounds into the passenger cabin (via stereo speakers)
No artificially generated sound or pre-recorded track being played

Please read this thread if you believe it's "slightly modified 335 engine":

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=893611

And re Active Sound:

BMW, Porsche and many others do this now. It actually sounds good in reality, even though it's not as real as "good old" lack of noise insulation...

Porsche's is along the lines of two tin cans with a string in between or the principle of a stethoscope or just opening a hole into the engine compartment.

"Porsche’s new Sound Symposer, fitted to the new (991) 911 and forthcoming Panamera GTS, is another intake-noise amplifier. As the 911 has grown up, so have the needs of its drivers: One need in particular is quiet cruising. Wide, low-profile rubber howls at 80 mph, and damping that distraction also diminishes the primal sounds of the engine. Porsche calls its amplifier an “acoustic channel,” and it consists of a tube housing a diaphragm and a valve. When an occupant pushes the sport button on the *center console, the valve opens and the diaphragm goes to work amplifying the mechanical sounds radiating from the intake plenum."

Great read by the way http://www.caranddriver.com/features...ined-tech-dept

S55 is substantially different, lots of innovation has been made on the motor. Should be some info in OP. I do agree the Active Sound is still somewhat gimmicky. Wish there was a more "authentic" way to pipe in sound. I can already see the negative press around it

still, get a 335 tuned and you're pretty much an M3

Not even close. For any true enthusiast who actually ventures to the track, the engine has only ever been one part of what makes and M3 an M3. Plus, previous M-engines (E36, E46) have been built off those of regular series cars. Furthermore, a few of us around here realize there's more to an engine than its displacement.

Please tell me that for the M3/M4 BMW has given the driver the option of turning off the piped-in sounds through the speakers?? Sometimes we do make phone calls in our cars BMW, no need for this "live amplification" bullchit in my opinion.

I don't know enough about it, but if you are listening to music, is the music playing on top of the "active sound"? Same with Bluetooth phone calls, are you talking on top of the "active sound"? That would be complete bullchit and a serious negative factor to me if that is the case.

Why not give the driver control over this gimmicky nonsense? Sometimes I want to hear the engine roar, other times like on a long road trip I might want as quiet as possible and not hear piped-in 4,000 RPM droning for hours on end.

Active sound is so subtle you won't even know it's there. Seriously.

It can also be coded off (at least it can in the F10 M5).

In the new german car magazine SPORTAUTO is an very interessting article about the new M3/M4 from the official driving event ... with an very interessting comment about the cost savings:
Quote:
"Dazu trägt maßgeblich der Motor bei, der nun nicht mehr im Sondermotorenbau im Werk München, sondern auf der normalen Produktionslinie in Steyr gefertig wird."
"This contributes significantly to the engine, the engine is no longer produced at the Munich special engine plant, but on the normal engine production line in Steyr"
In the same magazine is also an emotional farewell article for ehe M3 Coupe!

Greetings BMW M3 CRT

Wow, that kind of takes away some of the M3 luster for me if this is true. Having the "M" engines produced in a special separate factory was always a cool selling point, whether it truly was necessary or not.

I'd wait to hear it from a much more official source before believing it.

Any new info or images? It is going to be a long wait till next Spring/Summer for anticipated delivery. Will January at NAIAS be the next influx of information, or will any of your sources reveal little bits of information before then?
