In preparation for some high boost on my being-built motor I picked up the EoS manifold. I asked for mine unpainted so I could work on it. The quality of CNC work outside on top is really nice, but the rough casting inside leaves a little to be desired. The seams have some casting residue and the runners could use a little cleanup.
Time to Smooth & Polish!

This was my first time DIYing this job so I watched all the vids from HeadGames where Dave is hand porting heads. He's a master with great technique, so I copied his steady slow moves. My tools were a Dremel with flex-shaft, a China carbide burr set, and my Shop Vac. You have to take your time and work in small sections. If you go too fast you clog up your burr, and then it's done.

In the pix you'll see me starting in the runners, first removing any casting leftovers or rough spots with the burrs. Then I sanded and brush polished. I also smoothed out the main opening where the throttle body mounts.

I think the job turned out pretty good. If any of you guys want me to do this to your manifold send me a PM and we might work something out.

Looking good bro but cleaning those runners is time consuming, too bad they don't clean up the manifold a little better. Some folks will argue that some roughness helps with mixing. I've been debating buying one for meth injection for that even distribution. Build looks top notch.

Thanks man! I wish they offered a Full CNC option where they milled the whole piece inside and out. Since our DI system has dry runners we can take a full mirror polish. For running J meth I would have left a rough sanded surface. If I eventually install WMI then I'll do 6 small port nozzles to wash and cool the valves, and for that even distribution.

Since a buddy asked about some work I picked up a couple more accessories to see how they did at smoothing out the inside surface of the manifold. One wheel does a really good job at removing surface garbage while leaving a rough enough texture to keep J-pipe spray from condensing.

Flap wheels and wire wheels after your smoothing with the burrs really clean it up nicely. I was doing this for awhile on OEM manifolds and adding those 2 cheap things to your arsenal will step up the end product for you

The objective of polishing is to allow the smoothest airflow. Smoothing inside corners helps reduce any turbulence.

Opening up the runners more would change the HP/TQ curves, but I don't mess around there.

Here's another EOS getting prepped for a buddy. His is painted clear so it gets a little extra attention on the prep work. He's not running any WMI before the manifold and requested a smooth polish inside.

Since I got some good practice working on my buddy's manifold it was time to redo mine. Now I used fine drums and brush wheels. I also worked the outside to remove the rough cast spots that their CNC can't get.

Next step…black CeraKote ceramic coating!

Here's another excellent application of black thermal ceramic by Bonehead Performance Coatings! It was only a Benjamin and a half.
