Changed the plugs and CP.. wow!

Car has 65k on the odo. Been running a Downpipe, BMC filters, and the MHD Stg2+ e30 tune. Over the past few weeks it has been slightly missing up top. So, I figured let's do the plugs, and replace the charge pipe while I'm at it.

Got the NGK 2 step colder plus from BMS (thank you!), found a Doc Racing CP on ebay for 149. The CP fitment was ok at best. The weld was in the way of the bolt, so I could not fit the socket over it, and both pipes are not exactly level with the charge cooler. I'm OCD..

Reset adaptions and took it for a spin.. holy $hit.. not gonna lie, it felt like i added 30hp. Pulls so strong all through the powerband.

Not bad for a couple hundred bucks and a couple hours of labor.

Pic of the old Bosch plugs, and the CPs installed.

Well if those are stock plugs you're 35k over, so it would make sense that the car runs better.

BMW calls for a plug replacement at 60k, so I wasn't too far off. Think the tighter gap (.20) made a big difference. The extra boost was probably blowing the last ones out at .27.

60k should be your second spark plug change, they're recommended every 30k for the S55 motor.

Impressive to see stock plugs just now starting to cause noticeable problems after so many miles with higher than stock power levels but it's partly due to the ignition coils being able to work harder to create a solid spark. Running a plug too long will take a long time to show up as misfire but it is also shortening the life of the ignition coil powering it.

Does that mean, it'll blow up after 60k, or time to sell it

First attempt, about 1.5hrs to get to the plugs while carefully taking my time. I could probably do it in 45 or less now that I'm familiar with the process.

Not hard at all, just time consuming.. lot's of layers.

Not sure how you made it to 65k without changing stock plugs, especially running software. My car started complaining at 18k. Impressive in its own right.

I always liked this when it’s called “stage 0” tune. Meaning this is the power and drive ability gains just from making sure your car is running right and properly maintained.

I’m at 71k now and bought my own plugs after BMW declined quoting me to replace them without a CBS telling me they should be changed. As far as I can tell these now have 41k on them.

Just did mine today also with NGK 97506. I was experiencing slight misfires WOT. Car feels way better now and very responsive. Just hit 30k. I'm running JB4+BEF E85.
