All the local M4's and M3's should take a spin around his house at 6AM on a Sunday in Sport+

agreed, shaming him publicly and trying to damage his life isn't going to get this resolved. sucks he's an asshole but there has to be a better way.

People engaging in this type of behavior are clearly abnormal and beyond reasonable actions. You should assume he has an actual mental disorder (perhaps early stages of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder) and keep that in mind when being around him. It's unfortunate because coming home shouldn't be a source of stress for you. You shouldn't have to act like you're walking on eggshells when returning from work.
Out of an abundance of caution, I would carry a firearm in the house and become proficient with it, should he take things to the next level and assault you or trespass onto your property. |

Cold start is ridiculous for sure, but the neighbor is more ridiculous. Kudos to you, but I'm not sure I could have shown the same restraint. That said, I did have the neighbor across from my garage alley ask if I could try keeping the garage door shut during cold start. They're retired a retired couple and are up early having coffee and reading by the time I go off to work. They literally said that their floor shakes when I start the car, lol. I'm aftermarket. I obliged and even closed the valves on start. Worked like a charm. Everyone was happy and no drama. Sorry you don't have that, op.

We don't complain when he throws parties making noise outside. The houses are close together and we all knew that when we bought them. Sometimes you have to put up with the noise of your neighbors because they tolerate some of yours. |

Maybe I'm a bit lost, but trying to understand where the references to 'stock' all keep coming from. As far as I'm aware, if your car is street legal they can GFTS.
I cannot imagine any judge or reasonable citizen saying you cannot keep a car with modified exhaust at your own home and domicile, and obviously would need to be able to start and move the car from wherever you kept it at. It shouldn't matter whether you're stock or MPE or AWE or Active or anything else that meets road registration rules in your state (NJ, so you'll probably have an uphill argument if you're de-catted, but OP is not). Fuck HOA's, first off. Second - OP, you should file copies of the previous neighbors police report as part of your response, as well as try to obtain a notarized statement from them on your behalf. The rock through the window - that's taking this bullshit to a whole other level. You bet your ass I'd be throwing as much at this to refuse a settlement as I possibly could. People are responsible for their actions, and this was a crime. *To Echo @Golffrr here, a valve controller may be the easiest resolution to the continuation of your harrassment - and it's a nice thing to have even independent of unstable neighbors.

But, they're YOUR neighbors, you'd definitely know better than me! Quote:
@M4NewJersey - Is the video of him recording you leaving showing Bill in his own driveway? If it does, and your car is leaving your driveway, he's not even head on with your tailpipes. The other neighbor, behind him when he is standing to video you, could be the only one with a leg to stand on Re: you having to park your car in the garage backwards. If there's no complaints from the house head-on, fuck this dude.

OP what a reminder this thread is for me. I live in a house where everyone has 1 acre. 0 complaints. I have elder couple next door and they complain to me about noise sometimes, like any construction or leaf blower when done closer to their house but never hear any complaints about my noisy car. I have to say large property solves a lot of issues. We want to downsize now but I never realized how real the neighbors issues can be after having such distance to them for a long time....

I need to find 1-2 acres for myself to build on sometime eventually, both for my own privacy and so that my hobbies don't cause neighborly riffs. Sitting on my NYC Metro postage stamp lot, I'm quite envious of any large properties in reasonable driving distance from the city. Good luck!

Btw I came here from Brooklyn and the sense of privacy, openness, and quietness makes you a different person. Here people are very nice and polite, nobody is trying to cut anyone in the line because lines are rare. No honking at traffic lights even during rush hour, no crazy drivers, plenty of parking spaces everywhere, etc. maybe 20 years ago suburban life would be a downside if you prefer a vibrant life style but today any town you go you can get food and fancy stores the same way as in big city. Subs don't replace the city life but it is not a big compromise while you also gain some life qualities which in cities just impossible

You're not in the wrong, but you have crazy living across the street.
Chances are he's not leaving, and any legal avenues you pursue will serve to simply elevate him further. I'm not sure if you are married or have kids (or plan to in the future), but I'd seriously consider house shopping (regardless if you keep the car or not).

I'm lucky that we are very cool with our neighbors because I know that my M3 with an MPE is way too obnoxious during cold starts in the morning. Luckily I only bring it to work 2 times a week they don't have to hear it very often. Regardless of how loud our vehicles are, your neighbor seems mentally unstable. If he doesn't move away, I would move. There is nothing more uncomfortable than having to feel feel like you have to look over your shoulder in your very own home.

Good luck OP. My $0.02 is drop the requirement for apology. Paying for damages and stop harassment is more important, and that neighbor might have ego issues that would prevent a resolution because they don't want to have to "admit you 'won'" (when really, everyone is losing when it has escalated to this level) |
