Odd service intervals...120 and 140k miles for brakes
Just picked up a 2016 M4 with 26k miles and the service intervals are odd:
Oil shows next change in 10k miles or 9/19. Carfax shows last change in 2017 at 16k miles. Brakes show 120,000 and 140,000 miles respectively... Will try and get clearer service picture. Thanks

Carfax isn't always accurate. Was the purchase from a BMW dealership? If so, ask for a complete service history; they can pull it up as long as the work was done at a BMW dealer. The dealer could've changed the oil before selling. An unscrupulous one could've also just reset the service reminder without touching the oil...
My rule is to ALWAYS change the oil immediately after buying a used car or motorcycle. It is very inexpensive peace of mind. OEM brake pads last a while. Condition-based service reminders are based on their current shape as a result of previous owner's braking habits. If you brake more aggressively, the CBS will adjust intervals accordingly in the coming days.

Trying to get service records, should know soon. Brake mileage is still odd to me.

Front and rear brakes don’t wear out symmetrically.

CCB driven only on the street (and not aggressively) will say that based on CBS. Track it and they come down...I enjoy seeing how much life I take out of them

1. your SA can see the car's service history with a key -read, and he'll show it to you unless he's a total prick.
2. steel brakes on non-tracked F8X routinely exceed 100K miles. 3. attached is the recommended service schedule. I do coolant service X 3 years. I use the schedule for oil service because of very low mileage. If mine were a DD oil service would be 5K miles. I will do DCT service at 40K miles then continue that interval. Caveat: I plan to keep this car ~10 years |

Mine do this too - and here's the problem. I check service required items pretty regularly, and a while back had something like 50k mikes left on the rears. A few days later on the way to work, suddenly warning lights flash on and the car is telling me to go to the dealership NOW.
Turns out the pads were all the way gone, and had to be replaced. So unfortunately - don't trust the car's view of brake miles left...

So I decided to pay $700 to extend maintenance, will more than pay for the 30k service (dealer quoted me $1700, they charge 256 and hour for M labor).
