Instructed someone with a basic 6MT .1 GTS. Massively capable on stock P Zeros. Can't imagine the T is quicker or better on track than an equally equipped .2 due to a 50-60# weight advantage, but possible I suppose. Yours has the LWB w/ cage and rear wheel steer? Post a pic of that interior if you have one. Sounds awesome

Like I said earlier, tracking 911 or other Porsche just goes down to how much you love the badge (and how big your wallet is ) |

A 911t is a good marketing exercise For Porsche.. for the price of a new T u can get a slightly used 991.2s like I did.... only reason to consider a T is for the buckets and the revised manual gearing .. but the pdk is the one to buy

At 40+k more than the price of a similarly spec'ed M3, the 911T should be a much better car. I had an 09 Carrara, and it was an awesome drive. I was shopping between a 991 S and an M3, and I got an 18 M3 that can confortably carry my family (lotsa kids) for $10k less than a 5 year older Carrera S. Since I'm not independently wealthy, the M3 is the car for me, and it's also an awesome machine.
In another universe, I would have the 911T hands down. |

I think it’s a tremendous compliment to the M3 that we are even comparing it to a 911T. Of course the $100-130k sports car will be faster and feel more special than a $60-80k sedan. The fact that the M3 is “close enough” though is good enough for me. After purchase of the M3, I’ll spend the remaining $40-50k on a dedicated track toy, tires and brakes.

Yea... you're buddy isn't kidding. It really is that much better. I would go as far as to say that the 911 T is probably better than an M4 GTS.

At 404whp and ~3250 pounds of weight, and with the excellent hook-up of a RWD 911 the T should reliably be in faster than it is in the quarter mile ET and trap speed. It's not because the 370hp rating is accurate, regardless of whether some dyno somewhere said it made 400whp. For what it's worth, a 404whp rating would infer a ~440-460 crank hp rating. PDK is an excellent dual clutch transmission. A comparable Porsche would be a 997.1 turbo which claimed 480hp, had an older transmission (5 speed auto), and weighed 300 pounds more. That car did ~11.6 quarter mile time trapping 118mph. If the Carrera T, with PDK, weighed 3250 pounds and offered 440+ crank HP you'd be seeing trap speeds above 120mph very consistently. You aren't, because a Carrera T isn't making ~440 crank hp.

Not that it’s underrated but PDK is a better transmission and much, much better LC. On top of that, Porsche in a rear rear set up typically has less drivetrain losses so 370 seems like more. An m3/4 with Competition package is about equal in a 1/4 as a base 911, but also isn’t nearly as fast on track. The 991.2S traps around 121 and the GTS I believe is a 123/124 trap with only 450 hp.

2 completely different cars. I'm pretty sure I'd be happy as a clam in a P car too if I didn't mind paying through the nose, didn't need a rear seat etc. etc.

Porsche website states 3,142 lbs for manual and 3,186 lbs for auto (not sure why you would get the auto). Also, you can assume most Carrera T are around this weight because there is no point in getting any options other than ceramic brakes and torque vectoring.

I have been looking at getting one. I like the 991.2 and love the concept of the T.
But... As much as I love it, it does only seat little kids in the rear. It is extremely unpractical, attracts a lot of attention, and is a lot to embark on financially If you take all of that away, back to back drives - I take the 911. If I want a fun practical car for almost half the price - I take the F80. |
