How do you resist the urge to speed in this car?

I just picked up my m3 yesterday. Less than 24 hours later I have my first ticket..... How do you guys control yourselves? It seems almost wrong to drive this car slowly.

It is wrong to drive this car slow. Invest in radar detector. And a good attorney...haha. Both are cheaper than paying tickets.

When I'm in Austin. I'm stuck in traffic
When I'm in Houston. I'm stuck in traffic

That's how I avoid temptation lol

I let it rip on the road in between unless I have my cat with me. Then I drive pretty moderately.

Also, I'm not worried about getting a ticket and paying it off. I'm worried about my insurence fuckin me over month after month

I get my lawyer to take care of it. I end up paying 2 times the ticket, but at least it does not go on my record.

Valentine one has saved me in my F80, and my former E46 M cars. Their service is outstanding. They updated my original V1 at no charge after about five years of ownership, and provided a $100 trade-in when I needed to buy a new one (years later) the older version not updatable after +10 years.

Oh yeah....and it also performs beautifully.

I got my license suspended for 30 days because of just one ticket of 80mph in a 40 zone.

I have a Escort 9500ix radar detector but the cop "visually estimated" my speed

And when the judge sees BMW, they show you no mercy..

I would tell you "slow down" but what's the point..

Not to thread jack, but I have driver assist plus, and it might trigger falses on the V1, is this just me or how do other F80 owners use the V1 without false positives? only reason I think its car specific is my daily gets no false positives with a V1, same install location, tint, and no driver assistance features.

its pretty rare (maybe once a drive), but occasionally ill be on a backroad with nothing around me, and my V1 will trigger for low power K band for about 1 second at 3 bars of signal then looses signal over the next couple seconds.

Invest in a laser jammer. If you're really hardcore, a radar jammer too.

Radar detectors usually inform you that you're getting a ticket. LEOs are getting smarter and it's a push pull relationship on who has the edge for giving a ticket versus avoiding a ticket. I'm not sure what the laws are in your state but a laser jammer is illegal in California. There are ways around the law but to a seasoned LEO, it's obvious what you're car is set up for. For a laser jammer to be effective, components of the system are unfortunately visible.

As others have mentioned, a good attorney does wonders. Access to an attorney is a great tool if you can afford it and you definitely should utilize their services when able.

I run V1 and CHP extortion plates and have been pretty lucky... aside from a gross polluter ref ticket.

I'm probably not the one to ask as I am not an expert on these things but I have a Passport Max 360. Works really well for me. In Texas the cops almost always use Ka band. Occasionally laser but that's a whole other technology investment. My attorney only charges $80 per ticket which is typically cheaper than a ticket or defensive driving. Plus it keeps it from showing up on insurance.

Wow, that's ridiculously cheap. Turns out I'll be paying 350, almost 3 times the price of the ticket.

Not on this level yet 😂

Girlfriend is in law school, so that may help in the future

I never have the urge to go fast in this car somehow. It's the only car I've ever driven which is incredibly fun to drive slow. None of this makes sense and leads me to believe my best days are behind me.

Yep, got caught doing a buck-twenty the first week I had mine. The cop was pretty frazzled chasing me down.

The story: I'm headed West, radar detector on as usual, I looked over and see a trooper hauling ass on the opposite side feeder road, I slow and blend with traffic, he hauls ass across an overpass to my side, passes me with the lights flashing, then slows back down behind me. Shit got real.

The ticket wasn't for speeding, but it could have easily been. It just made me realize my lies ahead if I'm not careful.

Valentine 1 and Waze. Jammers just made illegal here, lots of people taking them out of M cars.

Most of my driving is in the city so not much opportunity, also still only done 250 miles.

I had an interesting run in with a highway cop not too long ago. The only thing they saved me was my radar detector. And he kept speeding up and trying to hide and look for me. I won that day.

Oh and the best place to speed is a race track. Nothing else compares
