As I mentioned in my original post, I do take care when I enter or exit the car. In fact, I retract the seat back all the way so I don't rub on the bolsters (a lesson I learned after I rubbed the Silverstone leather bolsters in my E92 raw). I agree-- the "nicer and softer" attributes you mentioned also makes them susceptible to easier wear and tear marks. The drivers seat section of the leather has already started to stretch and deform-- not tight as it was when I first got the car. I just wish this M leather wasn't so fragile.

Exactly-- the seat section of the seat stretches to the point it's lumpy and wrinkled. But, as other posters above have pointed out, that's to be expected with leather. Not sure about heat tightening it back up though. I live in LA where it's pretty warm and it hasn't had any effect.

Wow- that's great. You're lucky. The SS leather in my E92 was awful. Looked great when new- but after 4 years, it looked like crap.

Thanks for posting these pics-- shows exactly what I was describing about the seat section (where your butt goes)-- the leather loosens and gets lumpy there and it stays that way. It's odd because the passenger seat on the right doesn't do this-- and my wife, friends and dad sit in that seat pretty regularly. And they aren't nearly as careful getting in and out and I see no bolster wear either on the passenger seat.

Anyway, thanks for the all responses. I was just wondering what the consensus was about the leather in these cars. I actually really like the way the seats feel and they fit my perfectly -- especially the comp pack seats which are far better than the regular M4 seats IMHO.

My shakir orange is holding up great no issues other then a stain under my sons car seat in the back seat which isnt the leathers fault, actually its my fault for not initially laying something down under the car seat when I first bought the car.

Well, I guess more cardio might be the answer 😜

My 15 had 56k miles on it and had just a little bit of wear on the bolster, the rest of the seats were fine.

It was the same on the E46 and E9x. People want soft leather, well that's what you get with soft leather.

On the other hand, my E92 335i had Dakota leather. I sold that with 49k miles and had no visible wear.

This for me too, I use Dr Leather cleaner and the protector on Silverstone, no problems looks great 👍🏼

No issues with leather after owning several BMWs since 2001. Like anything else, if you take proper care of something and don't abuse it, it will last a good long time.

I'm surprised to see so many people confirming the "quality" of the leather. One of my family members has a 535 M Sport and the quality of the leather in her car is significantly better than the leather I had in the M4. Maybe it was just me but it was blatantly obvious that one was better than other.....

Only issues I have with my leather seats are self inflicted. Had to rush my dog to the vet one day. Wife wasn't home of course so I had to take her in my car. The dog scratched the back seat. It's not bad, but my OCD really kicks in every time I see it.

Good on your for doing what needs doing for your doggo.

I drove mine to vet in a 2 seater before. Got to get care for my best boy at any cost.

Edit: it seems like people with no issues care for the leather and those with issues don't and have high miles. Zero surprises

edit 2: cloth or vinyl rock

39k mikes, DD, 2016. Getting some minor "cracking" on drivers seat bottom cushion bolster near on the door side. Obviously that's the piece that gets hit the hardest on an exit as you slide over. Overall everywhere else it looks like the day I got the car. I use leathermasters every so often as well although I haven't been as diligent as of late.

You know, now that you guys are mentioning "cracking" I did notice I had some cracking on the seat bottom, like in the area under your hamstrings. Wasn't bad, you'd have to get right up on it to see it.

I use Meguiars leather conditioner until I found Lexol products.

i have opal white for a year now, haven't cleaned the seats once and they look just like when I picked the car up. I wear jeans, get in the car after hiking in the mud, and generally give zero cleaning fucks. cause lease. I don't have time for that shit. Ok, fine, i do, but chicks aren't going to ogle themselves and if I'm not doing it then who will?

Anyway, these pics are a few months old but the seats look exactly the same (more crumbs though)

Nothing that a good clean wouldn't sort out.
