Hi guys, I recently took delivery of my 2018 M4 Competition without the m performance exhaust.
I feel like my car is not loud enough even in sport plus, are there anyways to make it louder while still having the pops and burbles. I noticed the AA mid pipe but the thing is, I am only willing to spend $500 MAX. I appreciate all the suggestions in advance. What do you guys think about a cat/muffler/resonator delete |

Unplugging flaps is not going to satisfy the OPs challenge.
AA midpipe is also not going to make your exhaust louder. It merely refines the sound. You gain MAYBE 5% volume. The options you listed above being remove the cats/resonator will just decrease the actual quality of the sound. I would be hesitant to do this. If it were me, I'd look on the classifieds for a used system locally. It'll probably run around 2k$. |

Why do you have a roughly 80k car with a 500 dollar exhaust budget? I'd recommend saving for a proper exhaust. Or maybe looking for a car that allows for funding for modifications. Buy once, cry once

Given the $500 constraint, I'm not sure there is a better solution than unplugging the valves. This engine's exhaust note is pretty audibly challenged, although I think at stock it's pretty decent. For me, unplugging the valves made a considerable difference. But then again I'm over my racecar days, got sick of the droning. If you just want your car louder in general, I think you're better off getting a SSR intake at that price. Loved mine, and to me it sounded way better hearing the turbo noises than any exhaust system I heard. Good luck OP.
And to six-n-twins, although I totally agree with you, have you tried selling anything on the classifieds on this forum? Some of the offers from the members here have the most hilarious lowballs I've ever come across haha. Just funny to see/hear about the other side of the argument when you aren't trying to sell something for what you think is a fair price. |

I’m going to put the M Performance exhaust. To me it’s really nice and loud in sport and sport + mode. I saw a few on eBay for $3800 with free shipping. You don’t want a used one because I’ve heard so many complaints of them rusting out at the welds. I know it’s titanium but they’ve been rotting out pretty quickly. BMW gives the same warranty as the car or two years which ever is greater. They don’t bother repair them. They just replace them. I’m not big on the burbles and pops. Audi does this the worst. It sounds like the engine is broke and out of tune. But this sound is really popular these days. Ferrari’s V12 cars don’t have this. It’s just pure, raw and spine tingling sound. Just my .02 cents

No, the do not rust... the exhaust cracks on the welds but there is a V2 version already.

Remove your stock resonator. Only do it if you have a tune that deletes your cold start.
If you don't, it will literally shake your house and neighbors house on cold start up. Ask me how I know... Last edited by Ghetto2315; 12-10-2018 at 04:45 PM.. |

So delete the first cat and swap the second cat with a resonator? Sorry, I don't quite get it, doesn't that mean I will have two resonators? |

I would love a crazy loud cold start, does that also make the car louder when running? I don't want to tune cuz I don't want to void my warranty.

The secondary cats are what most people replace with resonators or straight pipe. Less than 400$ for resonators to be swapped in. The cheapest option is to unplug the muffler flap. It will keep flaps open. There are other aftermarket options for this as well. |

Are you referring to only the stock resonator? The AA midpipe removes the secondary cat and resonator, and people are saying it doesn't increase volume, but yet only removing the stock resonator makes it way louder? Would you mind elaborating by chance? Reason I ask is because I have an AA midpipe sitting in my garage, ready for install, but if it's going to be really loud then I'm not going to bother. Thanks.

Does deleting the resonator make weird noises like rattling and droning. |
