So I'm just a few days into my radar/laser install and am trying to figure out the same issue.
I have an Escort Max 360 mounted under the rear view mirror as well as an ALP system installed. BOTH systems sound a laser alarm upon initial start-up. I know that I can disable the laser sensing on the 360 to solve the issue with that detector, but I'm at a loss to figure out how my front-bumper mounted ALP sensors are also picking up a false signal. This crazy, but I'm glad I'm not alone.

I'm almost positive my '18 M4 ZCP doesn't have a touch screen, and I ticked everything but CCBs and the DCT.

I don't think its the touchscreen doing this despite what hardware configurations may say on paper. Put a 15 foot extension on my V1 and can put it right up to my touchscreen and it doesn't go off. There is a diode in the windshield under the camera (under "connected drive") that supposedly is for the wipers but makes my V1 go off like nuts, even with the touchscreen covered using a LEAD apron. I think thats for the collision/pedestrian avoidance system unfortunately just like every mazda, volvo, and infinity. you point the V1 at this area and it goes off, even OUTSIDE the car with touchscreen covered. I think the false alarms inside the car are reflected/refracted beams within the windshield from this diode and number of false alarms goes WAY down if you mount the detector near the a-pillars. My laser alerts really go off when I drive up behind someone as well, making me think that it is reflected back laser. Stinks that this is messing with the ALP system, but this also helps prove to me that it is in fact not the iDrive screen. Frustrating. Not sure the detector manufacturers can filter laser signals like they were able to for all these K-band blind spot mirror systems... Hinckley - would be interested if you tried putting electrical tape over the opening for the diode under the connected drive logo on your windshield if that gets rid of your false alarms...just don't run anybody over!

I'll try to get to an electrical tape experiment over the next couple of days to see whether that helps with the Max 360. But at this point, I've just disabled the Escort's laser band.

so I have a '16 F82 with an updated V1 mounted the same way with suction cups, and I've had no issues at all. my brother has a '15 F82 and ditto: updated V1 mounted the same way and no issues. couple months ago he bought a new 540, mounted an updated V1 that was in his X5, again the same way (we thought) and the thing went bananas, just like previous posts. bottom line: it's the mirror. in both M4s the unit was more than a hand's breadth to the right of the mirror, in the 540 the unit was exactly next to the right side of the mirror. moved the V1 farther to the right and presto! fixed!

for clarity, I should have added to the above that all three cars use the Valentine remote display mounted in the instrument cluster, that's why we mount the units so far to the right. we do this for two reasons: it moves the lights from the V1 to the cluster where they can't be seen from the outside, and also because the remote display is a lot nearer the sight-line and way easier to see.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. Had a '15 F83 and my V1 gave me no problems for 3 years. Now I'm in an '18 F83 and the thing goes bananas. Initially I had it mounted under the mirror with a blendmount and it alarms (Laser) anytime you hold your hand up in the car (as though something is bouncing off your hand setting it off). I finally found if I mount it at the top of the windshield (above and to the right of the rearview) the false laser signals resolved... Until I drive into sunlight! Then not only do I get glare, but a never ending laser alarm as well. I'm all ears for a solution, but I think it's going to include just turning laser off for the V1.

False Laser
The source is the gesture control camera. I have an F90 M5 Comp and I had the same problem. Put electrical tape over the gesture control camera in the overhead console and the false lasers go away. If you like gesture control then turn off laser detection on your detector.

I'm pretty sure it's the iDrive touch screen on the 2018s. I have a retrofitted ID6 nbt evo in my car and decided to update my iDrive screen to the touch one yesterday and once installed and coded, it was setting off my V1 constantly.

As stated earlier, two pieces of electrical tape strategically placed on the right and left border of the '18 idrive screen are all that's needed to stop the false laser alerts originating from the car. No need to disable them on the V1.

I'll be first in line for an OEM-looking trim that solves this!

The CF veneer matches OE twill and it's very thin (.5mm) incl the heat resistant self-adhesive backing. Can do gloss to match perfectly or satin scratch resistant finish. I'm just really anal about details and I don't think it will have a finished appearance without bonding a thin gorilla glass screen protector into it as well. |

Well just off of medium quality cad previews, CF looks like shit IMO since it causes the screen to look quite small. Probably better to just go gorilla glass with nano-carbon printed ink on the back side. Keeps the cover as thin as possible while being appropriate to block the IR emissions. |
