M4 vs 718 Cayman S
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Now, the new 718 Cayman is (almost) out and the numbers are ridiculous; the Boxster S is only 2 seconds slower than the Cayman GT4 around the ring, so it's safe to assume the Cayman S will be able to clock in just as fast or faster than the Cayman GT4 (the last gen Cayman was 6 seconds faster than the Boxster) I love my M4 but some of the main quirks are the size, it's as big as an E39 sedan! I used to think the GTR was a huge coupe but this is even bigger. My original fix to this problem was going to be an M2 but I can't just fall in love with that car, the exterior and especially the interior are really lacking combined with some horrible lease rates makes it a tough sale for me. Seems like the biggest downfall of the Cayman is the way the 4 Cylinder turbo sounds, but I should be used to sub-par sounding cars coming from an F8x right? PS: this would be my DD, no wife, no kids

I'd like to register a vote for the Cayman. If I had no kids with no plans for any, and could only have one car, it would be a Cayman by a very long light year.

718 sounds more like a Subaru, and I think likely worse than inline 6 turbo in M3/4. Porsche likely dropped the ball there on sound and focused on performance only. 80K for a 4 cylinder coupe that doesn't sound good and performs well at track? Don't know if it's worth it....

I always loved the Cayman. If I had to do Cayman, it's gotta be the S or GTS. You'll feel the engine right in back of you. It's nimble and smaller than the M4. Get a test drive. This is a tough choice for me especially for the price. I give the edge to the M4.

I had a 987.2 cayman S and if it weren't for my becoming a father, I'd still have it. It's a different animal than the F8x cars.
Regarding the Cayman being faster than the Boxster... I'm not entirely up to speed on the 718 but I'm fairly certain that I'd read that the Cayman will finally be priced below the Boxster. What I'm not sure of is whether or not this new price level will mean that the Cayman will lose the [very slight] hp advantage that it has had over the boxster? |

A highly respected auto mag was not at all enamored with the 718 Boxter. Disappointing, underwhelming, soul destroying.....ouch

Not sure if you've already checked, but Porsche lease rates are horrendous compared to BMW's.

That was just a base boxster. They loved the S! 4.5/5 stars too. Haven't gotten to drive a 718 yet but obviously the base won't get the same tech as the S. The base is not worth getting though if you can get into the S which has gotten a lot of great feedback and reviews. Last edited by Motorsportenterprise; 06-13-2016 at 08:08 PM.. |

Correct. I was at Porsche dealer last month looking into a Macan. Their lease numbers are actually quite good. Money factor isn't that great, but high residual produces a low monthly payment. It was surprising as I have always heard the same about Porsche leasing.
