In all fairness, an M5 is a stately boat. A capable boat but still. Conversely, a tuned 600 HP GT-R is a monster. The GT-R was built for only one reason. I cannot phathom that being boring.

For the guy who said the GTR is soulless on the track is clueless and knows nothing except what he read in some magazine. Last edited by Jojipoji; 06-10-2015 at 11:38 PM.. |

Well, thats b/c you don't know what 500hp feels like when you mash the pedal past 100+. Its a big heavy car for sure. But when its already moving and the revs keep pulling, its not called the beast for nothing.

Honestly if you like/can deal with convertibles, I would do the s2000. It is faster in a straight line and has a larger aftermarket than the gt86. Consumables are dirt cheap and there are used parts everywhere.
I feel like the gt86 handles no where near what the s2k at the limit but it is easier to get sideways and to control it when you get sideways. The amenities in a s2k are completely lacking. No power seats, bluetooth or any other nice gadgets, whereas you can get a lot of stuff optioned in the toyota. If you track your car s2k is the way to go. if you never intend to track and dont like convertibles per se and just want to get sideways around corners I'd do the gt86. |

You'll be modding the Miata to have any fun. The stock chassis without a roll bar/cage feels like a wet noodle. The Miatas initial buy in will be cheaper but the s2k will be a handful and cheaper in the end. unless your picking up a spec Miata, which can be had for 8-15k

Much prefer the S2k to Miata. Had an AP1 for three years and autoxed that and Miatas extensively. Maybe if you did a V8 swap in the Miata...

I love my f80 but getting a GTR is on my bucket list. my wife agrees with the complaints of it looking quite pedestrian, but I look at it and see a monster. maybe more for what it does than how it looks, but my brain connects the two so I love how it looks. I've only driven a GTR very briefly, and can certainly understand the honeymoon period mentality with it. if I were to get one, I would track the snot out of it. at least until I got tired of hearing everyone say "that guy isn't even driving the GTR, it drives itself" .. lol!
sorry for the lack of true input, but wanted to throw that in there.

I don't know how this thread became half about the s2000 but I like it. I wonder how many of us here are current/ex S2000 owners.
Either way, id love to drive a GTR one day just to see what it's about. |

A few thoughts for what it's worth since I have both:
- If you do road courses, AND have the money to maintain the GT-R in the way it should, GT-R hands down. - If it's purely a daily driver, for me the choice was and has been GT-R and I have had a blast in the past 26K miles with mine - BUT, this could be where someone else (most people) would choose the F8x. F8x is an amazing car for the price. And, with a bit of modification (brake fluid, pads, tires), it can make a consistent track car. GT-R as a track car does need the same, brake fluid and tires. (Stock pads are ok for new to intermediate drivers on track). I'm on my 3rd set of race pads, 6th set of track tires (two different sets of wheels and tires for track and street) and have had a blast on track. Now the statement I'm making is due to me tracking the car heavily and I'm hard on brakes. I don't do track to just have fun. I'm after beating my personal record on every session if possible. I know people who own stock GT-Rs and come to track on same set of pads, brake fluid and tires 100%, don't really push the car 100% and still have a blast. No harm in that either. |

S2k all the way. I will admit I've never driven one, but I want one. I've driven the BRZ and it's a dog in everyday/hwy driving. And it's not like I need a fast car all the time since I daily an E36 M3 and 4Runner, but driving the BRZ was just frustrating.
The S2k would be the way to go IMHO.

Had a GTR for two years. Crazy fast it was. I had a lot of mods. Pushing over 650hp. But I love my F82. Just a more solid car. Love the way BMW feels. The gtr gearbox was noisy too. Inside the car was annoying . I sat with Germans. At the end of the day it's a Jap NIssan. No pun intended !
