Nope, the Check system that you can look at in the iDrive is unrelated to the Check Engine light. Get the code read and go from there. If it's driving normal it might be just a small thing.

If you have a relatively low fuel level you can get a check engine light from fuel slosh when cornering hard, with the centrifugal force causing the gas to be pushed to the opposite side of the fuel tank away from the fuel pickup. The car will go into limp mode, with reduced power.

This happened to me at Buttonwillow Raceway, running clockwise, making a left turn onto the front straight. I limped the car off the track and to the onsite gas pump, turned it off, filled up, and when I turned it on again, everything was normal. I forgot to fill up during the lunch break and started the 3rd session with about a third of a tank and a range of less than 10 miles. After I filled up I was able to do the 4th session with no problem.

The next day I filled up during the lunch break and ran all four sessions with no problem.

Glad to hear it's gone. Something to always think about when this happens is the gas cap, if it's not on tight that can trip a CEL (you likely already knew this anyway). That's a yellow CEL btw, if you get a red one park the car.

Check your coolant levels just to be sure its not the top mount intercooler starting to leak internally into the intake side which could throw the code intermittently. Just to be sure that's not whats happening.

That's every car. CEL luminates in accessory mode and then goes away if there are no codes once the car starts. Better learn more about cars really fast or owning a BMW ///M will be a strain on your pockets.

Glad someone else said. Thought I was going crazy the last couple of days watching this thread evolve.

And now the OP has deleted his entire first post making this whole thread completely meaningless. When one replies to someone asking for help one also assumes the OP has a basic knowledge level. Apparently not so in this case.

Mods should just remove this thread.

Wait, 1/3 of a tank gets you 10 miles? What’s your range on full, 30miles?

Taking fuel slosh into account it sounds plausible to me. I get roughly 6 mpg during track days myself. At Auto Club Speedway I've taken to bringing along a small gas can to put an extra splash into the tank before every second 20 minute session after a full fill-up to avoid starvation.

This was on the track during an HPDE! Two 20-25 minute sessions in the morning and I'm at half a tank and need to refill before the two 20-25 minute sessions in the afternoon. Fuel mileage on the track is somewhere around 6-7 MPG.

Gotcha, that makes perfect sense. I got a couple of those VP Racing 5 gallon cans, so my car will never go thirsty.
