I like the silver ones much better. Any news if the replacements still crack, or has the problem been resolved? Im planning to get mine replaced.

I don't understand how they crack. I have had my M4 for 4 years and 3 months and my emblems look brand new.

I had the cracked ones they got more and more cracked and I sat outside in hot sun for 6hours a day but when I got new ones replaced I left it parked in cooled garage and no problems so far and 8 months we are good and I left passenger plastic on it to see which one starts cracking first if they ever do. I’ll get blackones after that |

For those struggling with getting the black emblems switched for your faulty silver, contact BMW NA. They are tracking this being an issue and will work with your local dealership. Worked great for me.

Can you tell us who you contacted, or how? Just using their "contact us" on the website or generic phone number and asking for a certain department?

My 17' shipped with the silver ones, and they were replaced with the black ones under warranty. I had purchased the black ones and asked them to swap em out, but when the replacement ones came in, they were black, so I just returned the ones I bought.

My 17 has silver as well. Were they supposed to ship with black? Build date is July 17. Wondering as I need to have mine replaced and SA said they have to replace with the same part. I'd prefer the black ones, and am going the same route it sounds like you did by purchasing the black ones to have them swap during install. However based on what you wrote above I'm hoping that the part in the catalog for the 17 MY is for the black ones, and I don't have to worry about buying them.

Did they supercede with just the 2017 MY? I would love to see the parts list for the 2017's and see if it shows both as available, or just has the part number for one of them.

I really don't know if they were supposed to be replaced with black ones, or my dealership just did me a favor.

Even if the black ones supercede the silver, I'm sure there's still a large stock of silver that will be used first. It would be classic BMW to try to foist the remaining stock on unsuspecting owners. That, and the dealership will default to replacing with the same emblem color unless you press them on it.
