Renting A BMW from BMW on Demand at Welt

Has anyone rented a BMW from the BMW On Demand service at BMW Welt before?

I'm doing ED in Jan 2019 and it's about the same price (320 euro) to rent mandatory snow tires for my M2 Competition as it is to just rent a M2 for the weekend that I'll be driving around. This saves the wear/tear on the salty roads and hassle of driving to mount/dismount snow tires and I can put miles on BMW's car.

Curious what the overall experience is like for someone that's taken ED and then just rented a different BMW to drive around a bit in bad conditions.

https://portal.bmw-on-demand.de/inde...isplay#pricing

Thanks

Hey. Ive done BMW on demand a couple of times. Both times were on EDs for my dad when I wasn't picking up a car for myself. It's a fun thing to do for a bunch of hours. Make sure you reserve the car you want way in advance otherwise it might not be available

Yeah, did this a few years back (2016) with my wife and son while visiting the Welt. However, we put in for an M3 and when we got to the desk the gentleman told us that it was in for service and that he would give us the M4. Since we didn't get the M3 he gave us the M4 for the entire day for just the hourly price of renting the M3. if my memory serves me correctly, We left the Welt about 10:00 am and returned the car around 4:30pm. Plenty of time to get on the Autobahn and head down to Garmisch and back.

For €40 they will wash your car at the Munich drop off location. Get your own car and have a blast in it, after all that’s why you’re going all the way over there, to bond with it and travel in it.

If you need inspiration check out my recent ED post. 3700 km.

I don't need to bond with my car, it's a car lol. I drove 1,200 miles in Germany, Austria, Belgium when I did ED on my F80 in 2015 including laps at Ring and Spa. I don't want to deal with renting snow tires and the hassle of dropping the car off to change back to OEM tires then shipping, my schedule is tight as it is.

For the same price as renting snow tires I'd rather just drive BMW's car, drop it off and be done with it while my car is already at LogInOut to head back to the US.

Hey Cosmos. Why even bother doing ED if your not gonna drive your car in Europe? Your only gonna get the current 5% discount with no incentives on the car (except BMW CCA $500). Sounds to me you would be better off just ordering your car the way you want it and get the best deal you can get including current incentives. Just a thought. Good luck.

I get dealer discounts above BMW's 5 percent on all my EDs. BMW frowns on it, but they can't stop it.

Cosmos, I think renting is a fascinating alternative and saves the hassle of getting the snow tires. If you're so inclined, think about renting something other than an M2 just for a different experience. After all, you'll soon enough know what it's like to drive the M2!

Interesting. Would you mind PMing me your CAs contact info?

The wife and I wanna do another ED this spring and I was about to start the search.

There are no incentives for a 19 M2C that I know of any way and 5% is still 3 grand, why wouldn't I do ED? I can fly there for free on points and get a short vacation in after the holidays.

You know ED doesn't change how the car is configured right?

When I bought my F80 end of 2015 I got the 7% ED discount back then plus another 2k off or so. It depends on supply and demand, so far I've found it pretty hard to get a discount on a M2C. Most dealers in Dallas don't even have an allocation and the ones that do won't offer ED, just US MSRP.

I may rent something else, maybe AWD for the snow. I already know what it's like to drive a M2, I have a 2017 right now

I missed the part about the M2c. Aren't we in the F80\82 area? Anyway I saw your threads in the M2 section a little while ago and re-read your initial post.

So Yes for the M2c it's a no brainer. For an M3\4 it's not. People get a significantly better discount which includes incentives (sometimes $3000) grand on the F80/82.

I've done 4 EDs so I knew very well how things work.

Ya, of course. That makes perfect sense.

My EDs were for an M4 and up, so discounts were always available. Sounds like you understand that. Still need a PM?

Sure. If you have a good/fair Client Advisor and wouldn't mind giving out his/her contact info

I have also done it and it's an easy process. I was going to rent an M3 for a day but someone crashed it the day before and they gave us an M4 Competition.

The second day we rented an X6M to drive around with my friend who was doing a M2 European Delivery.

The cars have preloaded Bmw routes on them. You can choose one of the routes depending on how many hours you want to drive.

We drove south and there was a lot of snow. The lakes were very beautiful.

They put a hold on your credit card and release it after you return it. If you are renting multiple cars (let's say 3 cars in 3 days) they will charge you for multiple deposits. They can't transfer the deposit.

They tell you not to drive with dsc sport and dsc off. The car gives a warning if you pass 240 km/h because of the winter tires.

Have fun.

Np. No you don't need to follow the routes. They are just to help you out.

Keep in mind that 5 hour rental is the same price with full day rental. So, unless you are doing a very short rental, full day makes more sense.

Does anyone remember the cost to just leave your car at the welt and have them take it to the train?

I seem to remember €50. They drive it over to the normal ED drop-off center near Munich airport.

Dang that would suck if someone else got to drive my car before me. Maybe I'll just drop it off on the way out of town and have my friend drive the rental BMW.
