I have PPF around the wheel arches and elsewhere that are turning black around the edges (photo attached). No matter how I scrub during a wash/wax session, I can't seem to get it clean.

What success have you had in fixing this issue? Thanks in advance for your help.

few options

quick detail spray and a toothpick
toothbrush with Johnson Johnson soap
Take it to a clear bra shop and have them trim it back
replace it with new pieces

I've found bamboo skewers to work quite effectively. Like these:

Not sure if I'm harming my ppf but I wet a q-tip of isopropyl alcohol and go around the edge. Cleans it up real well

Thanks everyone for the ideas!

Any concern of scratching the paint or pushing the dirt further with skewers and toothpicks? Would be just my luck. What do you use as a lubricant for said picks and skewers?

Chet's idea seems a little more foolproof, but any concern over using alcohol on the paint?

70% ISO is safe to use on PPF and paint. I would avoid anything with a sharp edge directly on the paint. Maybe wrapped in microfiber towel if needed. To avoid the issue altogether, ceramic coat the PPF and focus on edges. This will keep the dirt off and make it easier to maintain.

This is the correct way to clean it according to my PPF guy... its how i clean mine.... although sometimes it doesnt work well when the PPF is lifted and dirt gets too deep inside it. You can still clean lifted PPF.. but it sometimes the adhesive is gone. At which case Ive seen my PPF guy add adhesive in between.

alcohol kills the adhesive, so over time, if it ever does lift, you need to "glue" it back down, typically with primer 94, which will ruin the film if you try to lift it up for whatever reason.

Toothpicks with either detailer, or if super ocd use car soap and water that is about 50/50 for a lubricant. Don’t use isopropyl as mentioned. Wipe up with detailer.
