We need to keep this thread going to make sure no further cracking issues with the 03 revision (hopefully that extra bracing and any other changes to the 03 revision finally do the trick)! |

Is that an "04" revised part???
Here I was hoping to get the "new" 03 revision, but it looks like it's already been superseded? Any noticeable differences between the 03 & 04 revisions??? Edit: Removed pics. |

Just got my exhaust replaced under warranty due to cracking around the muffler. Took about 2 months to order from Germany, but looks like it's a rev03. It does have the extra bracing on each side to support the exhaust tips.
(Sorry for the poor pics)

Did you have to provide a receipt? Bought mines from a forum member and no cracks so far. Keeping fingers crossed.

UPDATE
so the muffler finally came in after a month, but because the dealership was busy i wasn't able to have it installed until today. my SA did me a huge favor and got me in this morning and I was able to pick it up before closing. loaner and everything. he took care of me like no other. the muffler is revision 04 as confirmed by the picture. the inner exhaust pipe has the braces on both the top and the bottom (hard to take a picture of the top but i can confirm it's there). hopefully this puts an end to this whole cracking issue. if it happens again in the future then id be SOL since itd be way passed warranty (even though its already been two years since installation ). and the pictures... part number and revision on the drivers side. bottom of the inner exhaust with the bracing inner exhaust which shows the bracing on top as well. so yeah. good luck people. if your muffler needs replacing, now is the time to do it. im hoping BMW finally did their research and put a stop to the cracking after all these years.

Did you notice any difference in sound / volume? Germany got stricter laws on exhaust noise emissions which means since Juli 2018 MPE and all Performance Exhausts for F3x Series are banned. There were rumors BMW will release a more silent version in august which could explain the Rev 04 just after Rev 03 has been released 2-3 months earlier

Hmm that's an interesting thought. I have a rev03 and in my unscientific opinion, it seems as loud as my rev02 (both in closed and open valves mode).
The rev03 has the same added bracing as the rev04 from what I can tell from the pictures. I wonder if the changes are more internal?

Can anyone recommend a shop in NY or NJ that can repair the crack on an MPE? I noticed one on my friend’s car when it was on a lift. Needs to be someone who can weld Titanium. Thanks!

This used MPE was sitting at a shop I visited. The owner replaced it with an Akrapovic not knowing BMW would have warrantied as it was installed as a port accessory, which I later confirmed by quoting his VIN to my dealer. Unfortunately, the dealer won't warranty it unless physically attached on the car, and the previous owner wants nothing to do with it anymore... oh well
being the very first version, is it worth saving and getting welded, and adding bracing like what someone posted a few pages back? Last edited by fabulousprofound; 10-15-2018 at 03:47 PM.. |
