I got the recall letter in the mail today.

MY2017
July 6, 2016 production date.

Just checked. Mine is affected.

So does that mean we lose our carbon fiber driveshaft and end up with the steel driveshaft instead?

I checked my 2015 M3, no recall. I checked the VIN of my 2016 M4 GTS, and apparently it doesn’t exist in BMW Canada’s database

No you will get a CF replacement.

I asked my dealer about when I get the fix done. They said Canada hasn't received any parts yet and to call back in January. I also asked if this was a serious issue, and they said don't worry about it. You're fine.

I had mine replaced around a few weeks ago. No issues at all. Don't notice any difference. Your dealer has to order the part for you.
