Ferrrari 250 GTO vs. 850 BMW M4s

If you had $70,000,000 burning a hole on your pocket what would you buy?

Garage List
The highest priced GTO (or any car for that matter) was $48 million I think.

Nevertheless, I’d take the Ferrari over 850 depreciating M4’s.

Edit: You are correct. One sold for $70 million recently. Wow!

I'd take the 250 too.

from Wiki :
In June of 2018 the 1964 250 GTO set an all-time record selling price of $70 million.[5][6] In October 2013, Connecticut-based collector Paul Pappalardo sold chassis number 5111GT to an unnamed buyer for a new record of around $52 million

I think I could have a combo of 3-4 cars I’d want and save roughly 69 million.

Ralph Lauren has a 250 GTO in his collection and even at $70,000,000 it is probably not his most valuable car.

OK with me.

My list would be:

1. 1955 MG TF
2. 1955 jaguar XK 120
3. 1962 Corvette Fuel Injected
4. 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe
5. 1957 Thunderbird
6. 1969 Camaro Z28
7. Facel Vega HK500
8. 1969 BMW 2800CS
9. 1955 Cunningham C3

And I would not be close to Seventy Million.

Investment grade GTO, estimated to be 9 figures in 5 yrs. If true I'd take the GTO

Utterly stupid. For investment, sure if you have the money, pretty solid investment. But if you actually want to drive something, not no, but hell no. Literally anything modern will be better faster and more fun to drive. You could have literally every super car made in the last decade with money left over. No thanks

Actually both options are stupid - instead of one of those Ferraris or 850 M4's - for the price you can have 883 M3's and have twice the number of doors as 850 M4's with seating for 5 apiece instead of 4 apiece - and wider fender flares on all 883 of them - or have 1766 doors vs the only two doors on the one Ferrari...

Having driven my buddies '64 stingray this past weekend I now want something similar. Probably not looking for anything collector grade for me but lets be fair if you can drop $70M on a car you can probably find a "driver" quality of the same car and drop $10M on that and not be worried about where your next meal is coming from.

There are less than 40 250 GTOs in existence. Highly unlikely that you could obtain one for less than $40,000.

One problem with this logic (from an investment standpoint) is that in ten years it is quite possible that the 250 GTO will be worth$100,000,000 and the supercars made in the last decade will have depreciated substantially,

You are right of course. Brain over heart and all that. But I don’t yearn after a 250, no matter how pretty it is. I yearn for the last supercar with a manual transmission, the CGT.

Postwar classics to me seem too fragile to trash around, every time you take them out on a road trip something breaks. But maybe with enough $$ spent on maintenance you’d be ok...

An appreciating asset vs 850 depreciating boring M4’s. Hmmm let me think.
