3 bolt Vs 5 bolt interchange

This has probably been covered before but ive searched 50 times and cant find anything.
I've read with KW coilovers if you have a 3 bolt you can use 5 bolt setups but not the other way around. Do you just remove 2 of the studs of make this work?
As well is this the same for ALL brands or just KW?

Should be the same. Did you contact KW?

For TCKline, on some applications, the other two bolt holes just don't get used.

Also looking for confirmation on converting 5-bolt Top hats/camber plates to 3-bolt usage with removal of the 2 extra studs.

I read that 5 bolts camber plate could be used on a 3 bolts car but not the other way around ?
Why is that ?
Using only 3 bolts on a 5 bolts car is not an option ? (essentially like a 3 bolts car)
What am I not understanding ?

if you have a 5 bolt camber plate, you can use it on a 3 bolt top chassis.
To do the contrary, you will need to drill and tap the camber plate.
The 5 bolt layout is basically the 3 plus 2 additional holes, so the 3 match exactly.

Dear DavidStr, thank you for your answer.
One thing I still don't understand. How can one use a 5 bolt plate on a 3 bolt car when the 5 bolt configuration uses M8 and the 3 bolt uses M10 bolts?

Yes, this is correct information. the 5 bolt top hat uses smaller bolts than the 3 bolt top hat but the bolt pattern for for 5 uses the same bolt pattern as the 3 for the 3 that do line up . So the dilemma is that the holes line up but the bolts don't fit or the correct size must be sourced .

Are you using GC Camber plates? I have a 3 bolt car and received 5 bolt plates and Ground Control/Bimmerworld were able to confirm that you can knock out the 2 pins you don't need on a 3 bolt car.

Quote:
From BW: Ground Control told me that the easiest way to knock those would be to take the gold reinforcement plate, get a half inch socket, position the half inch socket as to where the square hole is where the drive is, the circle lip from the stud fits in there perfectly.

Then, grab a hammer and just tap those studs right out. They should come out perfectly fine.

You can drill and tap from M8 to M10 easily if you are using a 5 bolt topmount on a 3 bolt chassis.
If the contrary use helicoil from m10 to m8 and drill and tap 2 more holes to M8.
Any decent shop can do this easily

I think you'd better contact the manufacturer and check on this issue. I can tell you that the bolts must be steel. The presence of galvanized coating is not necessary if the bolts will be used in a non-corrosive environment. For fasteners in this area should be chosen in advance. It should be studied to avoid self-torquing. You can look for such bolts at https://www.scrooz.com.au/fasteners/wall-plugs/. But first contact the manufacturer and find out how many bolts you need.

You can remove 2 of the 5 bolts if your vehicle has 3 bolts on some plate designs. Check with the plate manufacturer to confirm.
