I was also the victim of no oil filters in stock for my 1200 mile service upon arrival. This was at Sam Swope BMW in Louisville KY.

SA is supposed to call me as soon as he gets one. He says as early as tomorrow.

So......get this! I make an appointment for my 1200 mile service 3 weeks ago. Thanks to this forum I tell the SA to please ensure she has the proper filter in stock for my appointment. I told her there are some issues due to a filter part number change or something. With a "oh, your one of those guys" type attitude, she ensures me she already has it.

So I go in today, the other SA is there(the one I spoke with 3 weeks ago and is the better of the 2 is off) and I asked him again to ensure the correct oil filter is available/used. He gives me his reassurance, they have it.

I go have a seat in the waiting area excited that I am finally getting the service done and I will be able to unleash the beast. About 30 minutes later the SA comes out, head down. I knew what he was going to say. He says they don't have it!!!

I was very nice and just laughed. They said bring it back next Saturday and they will have the correct filter. And they wonder why we think they are idiots.

I wish 2 things; they would learn their product and they would at least look into something what seems to be well informed customer says.

Similar experience and sentiment...the problem is in their eyes, you are just another BMW owner (regardless of whether you own an M3 or a 5 series) with minimal education regarding your vehicle. Like you, I have tried to stay involved from day one regarding my vehicle purchase and maintenance.

All I can say is remain strong and be Vigilant!

After there screw up, I told them I'd like top purchase a -445 oil filter. They asked why, you can get service at any dealer.

Selling me my own oil filter to keep in my possession why the only way they could guarantee that this would never happen again. They ended up giving it to me for free.

i want to do my own DIY oil changes every 5000 miles (800 more miles before i reach this milestone) and want to make sure i get the right filter.

so the one on turners website (which i almost just bought) is wrong?

this is the right part number? 11427854445?

Kenny,

In for the answer on this. I'm interested in doing my own change at 6000 miles (4800 miles since the first service and ~5,000 miles until the next service

My parts manager just checked and there are 1,000 available in the US from BMW, with more arriving in January.

My guess is either would really work but my dealer tells me the part number for the correct filter is 11-42-7-854-445

Anyone actually know what the difference between these two filters other than one has an ///M logo? Different flow rates? They appear identical to me.

Manufacturer gives states both have the same dimensions.
So filter media must be different, giving different flow rates and filtration.

The ...327 one is not approved for the F80/F82

I order a couple of the 445 ones for $11.65 plus shipping costs since I was already getting some other stuff. Future reference for everyone else is the Mann part number is HU8011. I haven't seen them on amazon yet, but a few parts sites had them for $8-9.

Do you mind listing the parts sites that offer that price? So far my search results the lowest is $15

I bought a MANN HU8011z. it shows as the correct filter for my car.

I look at the filter is says 'HU 8011' but it does not have the ///M emblem the other numbers don't match either.

$7 + shipping from rockauto.

I have both filters in front in me. They are identical in both dimensions and construction. even the filter element is the same . Aside from the M logo there is no discernible difference between these units... I am sure you can use one or the other respectively.

BMW 11427854445 S55 Engine
BMW 11427566327 N55 Engine

Here are the dimensions

Height 79mm
Diameter 73.5mm
Inner diameter 41mm
Outer to inner 16mm
Outer Circumfe 233mm
Bore circumference 129mm

This thread was VERY helpful. I had a bunch of N55 oil filters laying around. The filter was identical to my F80 M3. Thank you to all the posts above mine.

Be happy they didn't put this crap in instead. One BMW dealership did this.

The original post was more than 3 years ago, so I doubt the OP would feel either way at this point.

Turner Motorsports lists the HU816 as the oil filter. I picked up 3 for $9.95, should be delivered this week. Sounds like I could have saved a few bucks elsewhere but I was buying a few other things that seemed to be cheaper there so I just went with it.
