Oil change interval

Just got my M4 back from the dealer for the run in oil change. My oil change interval now reads 8000 miles 1/2019. So I am suppose to have the oil changed in 8000 miles or 1/2019, which ever comes first. Which is next month for the 1/2019.
On a second note, 8k is about where I would normally change my oil. Which was 1/2 of the 15,000 miles previously recommended by BMW. So do I change at 4,000? What have you guys been doing?

Are you saying you did the 1200 mile service and now it says oil change due soon?

Same thing happened to me. Usually happens when the car has more time than miles in the system. Dealer told me to wait until I reach the mileage or 6 months from now and they'll do it. They couldn't clear the oil change due soon notification because then they wouldn't be able to charge BMW for the next maintenance interval.

Yep, did the service now it says to change the oil in 1 month, or 8000 miles.

Its 10000 miles or 1 yr from the date car arrived at dealership, when did you buy the car and how long was it sitting at dealership?

For break in service at 1200 miles they don't reset the service interval

The CBS schedule is attached below. It commences at the in-service date. The 1200 service does not appear on this schedule because it is strictly mileage based, and fluid changes performed at that service have no bearing on the CBS. I agree completely that the oil in these cars should be changed at a maximum of 5000 miles, but very low mileage cars may only need this done annually, as per the CBS.

5,000? Why not 10,000 per the schedule?

10000 is fine if you lease. if you plan to keep the car for several years than 5000 is better. I had an E39 540 that I drove for 17 years, guy I sold it to is still driving that car. everybody makes their own choices.

this is the 540 the day I sold it.

This makes sense. It sat at the dealership quite a while. I had about 1500 miles on it when they did the run in service, so the 10k sounds right. You would think they would reset the mileage for the oil change since it just had one.

I personally think 5,000 miles is to quick unless you are driving very short distances per day. Synthetic oils have come a long way in recent years.

Back when BMW recommended 15,000 miles between oil changes, like on the S54, I would change it at 7500. That made slightly more sense than halfing the current engines recommended 10k miles.

Took it to the dealership and showed the service manager. He reset the oil monitor and now it reads 1 year and 10,000.

For my car, which is not a lease, 5k miles in between is what i do. The ICE has not changed so dramatically in recent times and it is a small expense for piece of mind. Did this for my E46 and F30 with good results as well.

5k oil changes is what police do for the Dodge Charger Hemi and I think the Ford ecoboost. That's 5k miles and untold hours of idle time. With about 10 full throttle 0-90mph per work day and about 1 high speed chase per oil change. After the cars are done with service work many people buy them and drive them for years.

I am sure BMW tested oil and know whats ok. As most every modern car sold had oil changed beyond 5k.
